I was just wondering. Should the A-Sun plan to expand in the future, would their next pair of candidates be from the D-II Peach Belt? In the past decade, the only inclusions (excluding Northern Kentucky from the GLVC) were from that Southeastern-based conference, which were North Florida, Kennesaw State and South Carolina-Upstate.

Did you have some future schools in mind?

Not yet, but I'm on the investigation about it.

Well, I don't know how qualified any of them are...but there are quite a few(7) schools with decent enrollment(@6k and above). Most of them appear to be in Georgia.

I have a few for now. How about bringing back Armstrong Atlantic St. and Georgia Regents (formerly known as Augusta St.) back to D-I (former charter members of the Big South)? And how about D-II Indy Palm Beach Atlantic?

According to things that have been in print since 2007ish Bellarmine, Augusta St., Columbus St., Nova Southeastern, W.Georgia(has fb), W.Florida(has fb). Have mentioned moving to or thinking about D-I and are in the ASC footprint. UNA is a little east for them and has football.

As an NKU graduate/fan, I have to admit concern over the conference at this point. Too close to falling apart.

Isn't grabbing NJIT an obvious solution? Maybe it's too obvious, I don't know.

Bellarmine seems another logical chioice...plus it gives NKU a bit of a travel partner.

UNA (Florence, AL) is 119 mi SSW of Lipscomb (Nashville, TN). Football is more of a problem than geography. UNA is also only 231 miles from KSU. It is almost 400 miles from KSU to Bellarmine.

Horizon League fans seem to think that will be NKU's new home very soon. So they shouldn't be too worried. I'm sure if that didn't happen and the A-Sun got raided the Summit would take them.

The A-Sun certainly needs to be thinking about growing their league--either through DII upgrades or going after UALR and UTPA

Totally agree. The A-Sun at least needs like 2-5 expansion candidates. Having UALR would be a considering option (after all, they were former members of the A-Sun back when it was known as the TAAC from the 80s to the early 90's). And speaking of expansion, they should check out those from conferences such as the Peach Belt or the Sunshine State or the Gulf South and possibly the Lone Star. At one point, the A-Sun had schools from Louisiana to Texas to Arkansas to even Oklahoma and the Carolinas; way before it's like "the Big West" of the East Coast (because most of its membership is from the State of Florida)

Doesn't the ease of bring in NJIT make a lot of sense as well?

I would like to see one of these two moves happen right away. NKU has a nice, new arena and certainly has their sights on bigger things. Would be nice to establish more local rivalries as well.

If the A-Sun goes after UTPA, it might as well add A&M-Corpus Christi as a travel partner. The only way I see that happening is if the WAC gets hit beyond the point of recovery, and if the Southland kicks out Corpus Christi for not having football. If Corpus Christi is forced to move first, they will be in the WAC, which would have a stable presence in South Texas.

UALR and UTA will not leave the Sun Belt as long as they have a choice, and then the Summit might be preferable as it can build around Oral Roberts.

TAMU-CC and UNO won't be forced to leave the SLC. They weren't forced to have it, UNO seems to have bailed on the football idea after leaving D-II for that minute they were in it. ORU wasn't either but the Summit is a better bball conf. so they went back. There's no need for 12,13,14 in an FCS conf. b/c playoff conf. don't allow a conf title game, yes they can and do have 12, 13 teams but it's not like the FBS. UTPA is a better idea than NJIT b/c if you take them now, you're stuck w/ them later when say GRU-Augusta, Bellarmine and Columbus St. are ready to move, then you have that 1 sore thumb sticking out. I'm sure UTPA hopes they get that SLC spot now that ORU is gone after they got a site visit last time but no invite. Tarleton St. might be ready to move and would get the nod over UTPA if ready. NJIT is hoping for a AEC or NEC invite and is upgrading facilities and added lax.

But why bother being on an FBS conference as non-football members in the first place?! Now with the power-hungry Power-5 conferences having some desire to expand to over 16 teams (whose full members must have football), I bet they might apply a rule to prevent that to happen, with the exception of Notre Dame.
