Lipscomb finally gets a real travel partner:

Lipscomb/North Alabama (119 miles)
Kennesaw State/USC Upstate (184 miles)
Jacksonville/North Florida (11 miles)
Stetson/Florida Gulf Coast (208 miles)
NJIT/???

I'm thinking the 10th member may not come from the Deep South - you either get an outright partner for NJIT (such as Indiana University of Pennsylvania), with perhaps a replacement member in mind should NJIT leave. The alternative is you add someone on the fringe of the A-Sun footprint who will not be totally out of place once NJIT leaves, like Bellarmine (Louisville, KY). West Florida is really not outside the footprint, but would not have an obvious travel partner given that Pensacola is roughly the same driving distance from both Florence (AL) and Jacksonville (FL) - might as well pair them with NJIT.

I don't think it would be smart to plan on NJIT being there for the long haul.

If they get an invitation to a mid-Atlantic conference, I think they're gone...
NJIT is in the ASun right now as a marriage of convenience,
and the ASun is far preferable to the WAC (ugh !) or independence.

NJIT wants to be in the America east, along with their $250,000,000 (about $2 million a month to pay for the bond issue)events center. But does the America East want them? They are #1 in division 1 for student subsidy of athletics.

And they've gone from abysmal in basketball to pretty darn good !

Yeah, AE, MAAC, or NEC would suit them much better geographically.
And NJIT doesn't play football, so they don't have that complication.
I think I recall reading that they recently built a new events center....

I think there were some other FB playing teams in that D-2 Gulf South conference (Northern Alabama's current home)
who had D-1 aspirations - West Georgia, West Alabama, West Florida...
I wonder if any of them will approach A-Sun / Big South Football ?

USC Upstate is moving from the A-Sun to the Big South Conference, effective 2018-19.

A-Sun is critically low now on member schools now (8).
NJIT's membership is one of convenience, and they will say "Sayonara" as soon as a slot opens in a more northeastern conference.

It has been rumored for several years now that some more D-II football-playing schools in the Gulf South Conference (I think West Georgia and West Alabama have been prominently mentioned) have been pondering moving to D-I FCS (just as North Alabama has, with their recent move from D-II GSC to D-I A-Sun).

I would look for A-Sun to be contacting them SOON. If they were to move to the A-Sun, they would become football members of the Big South Football Conference.
