Bowie has dropped down to 2A-D1 after playing in 3A forever, and Garrison has moved up from 1A to 2A-D2.

Lee plans to apply for D-II this year instead of 2013. Senior Reports

So I have seen lists of perhaps 20 schools applying to D-2, however, I thought applicants have to be invited to a sponsoring D-2 conference, or the NCAA would not consider them.

To my knowledge, the only invitees are:

G-MAC Virginia - Wise (NAIA)
G-MAC Georgetown (KY) (D-III provisional)
GAC Northwest OK. St. (NAIA)
Heartland Oklahoma Christian U. (NAIA)
Heartland Rogers St. (OK) (NAIA)
Pac West Holy Names (NAIA)

What am I missing ? For instance, where does Lee think they are going ? Did I miss their being invited to a D-2 conference ? GSC, perhaps ?

I'm not sure if that rule that they had to join a conf passed. If it did and schools are applying w/o a home, must have a home but haven't went public on that part.

Applying(supposedly)
Holy Names(PWC) rejected last year
NW Oklahoma St.(GAC) rejected last year
Virginia-Wise(GMAC)
Georgetown(KY) (GMAC)
Rogers St.(HC)
Oklahoma Christian(HC)
Lee(GSC)

Don't have a conf locked up?
Lubbock Christian (HC? or LSC?)
CS San Marcos (CCAA?) rejected 2 times
Daemen (ECC?)

Might Apply
Xavier(LA) (GSC?)
W.Virginia Tech (GMAC?, WVIAC?) rejected last year and joined the USCAA

I was trying to figure what this was all about....

Both conferences are in exact same footprint.
Maybe SAC is non-FB ??? since both schools do not sponsor football.

CC was 12, SAC was 10... now CC is 10, SAC is 12.
However (from a few years ago), I have notes that SAC members Carson-Newman and Lincoln Memorial were thinking about D-1 (A-Sun for Lincoln Memorial).
If that were to happen, both conferences would be at 10....

Other thoughts -
1) GSC might be planning to invite FB schools out of this group
2) Some NAIA schools (Lee, et. al.) may be planning to move up into this group.

Any insight would be appreciated !

CC is now at 9, they have 1 fb school N.Greenville(Indy) and they play the SAC schools a lot. They had 2 move to SAC and 1 to NAIA(St.Andrew's)
SAC is a fb conf. 8 fb 12 total members
LMU does want to move up as of 2007, don't know if anything has changed. C-N does not want to move up, people just thought that because they were good at fb.
