Why UT Dallas is still content at DIII is a head scratcher.

Give it time. They have a plan.

Yeah, I figured they had a plan. Just wondering why Tyler, Rio Grande Valley and Permian Basin went first??
UTD is a good sized and well supported school(we used their library when I was in high school for research papers) with a large campus. I would guess that their advancement would be the easiest one to pursue.

They are focusing on building out academic/student facilities first, once they have they on campus enrollment they’ll build a new basketball arena. DII isn’t the goal.

I'm sure Tarleton State has their eye on the Southland Conference.

If a bunch of LA schools lose a big chunk of funding, and have to drop out, Tarleton State and UTRGV would be happy to move in as replacements.

Tarleton might be able to get into the WAC.
Two problems with that....
1) the travel costs and time would be unbearable
2) it might be like winning a trip on the Titanic / Hindenberg / TWA 800 (choose your metaphor).

You may be right?

A couple of factors that could play in....
1. Lamar, Sam Houston and (I can't remember) McNeese are all looking to move up sometime in the near future?? Near future = 4-8 years.

2. The WAC may be so interested in adding schools that they could possibly try to add anyone looking to form a group in the Texas, New Mexico and Louisiana areas. Hard to say with the WAC....are they desperate yet??

1) what would "moving up" mean ? going to FBS ? So they are hoping the SunBelt would expand ?

2) I see the WAC as the bottom of the pecking order in D-1.
They are far-flung, and are going to lose CSU-Bakersfield (announced) and UMKC (nothing official yet) and perhaps Chicago State (various issues).
Every team in the WAC has another more stable conference in mind where they'd rather be.
The WAC office needs to come up with a vision / a plan....

If there was a nucleus of FBS wannabe schools, maybe they could scrape together 8 teams and sponsor FBS FB.
They have NMSU. Liberty as a FB only ?
The problem is that MAC / SBC / CUSA pull in very little TV money, so FBS FB is going to be a money-loser for schools at the bottom of the FBS pyramid.

It seems to me....I could be wrong, of course.....that there could be a movement for smaller more regional conferences...at the bottom of the FBS pecking order.

CUSA really looks prime to split and reorganize. Which could have an affect on the SBC. And, if there are enough move-ups....things could look much different in the next 10 years. Who knows. Money or the lack there of....could push changes quickly??
