They should grab the Bonnies and get to work.

Gonzaga wants to play more quality opponents to boost their RPI.

Joining the Big East is awkward geographically, and Gonzaga's only concern here relates to men's basketball.

Why not lean on the Big East (and their mutual Jesuit connection) to schedule a bunch of Out-Of-Conference games vs. Big East schools instead ?

For instance, host a 4-team weekend tournament and invite some Big east schools to come out west and play them...

In your example....would the BE schools play each other.....or would they just play Gonzaga and then hang out and watch?

Because Gonzaga would still have to play an 18-game conference schedule, with eight games against teams like 8-22 Pepperdine, 9-22 Portland, 10-22 Pacific and 12-18 San Diego.

But the Big East doesn't really NEED Gonzaga. If Gonzaga joins the Big East and they play a 20-game schedule... that means 20 fewer OOC games combined they can play. They go 16-4 on average in 20 OOC games, but now they'll be 10-10 instead. That's going to to lower their SOS and RPI, and watch Gonzaga finish ahead of their bubble teams. They could get an extra bid, but that's going to Gonzaga. How does that help the other 10 members?

True. But Gonzaga could offer an incentive of giving up home court for a neutral court for some games. So get 4 OOC games per year, but have some flexibility to play a game that could be a draw elsewhere. A 3 game weekend tourney with Gonzaga, BYU and 2 rotating Big East schools for instance. Could be in Spokane one year, in Salt Lake another, in a Big East or random market the other years. Offers the potential for 2 games against a Big East school each year.
