I'd just make the Milwaukee Admirals the league's 32nd team and move Nashville to the Eastern conference.

I second that. If not Milwaukee, how about Kansas City having an expansion team (like they had before) or Houston (i.e. the Aeros) or Iowa?

KC built an arena on speculation of getting a team, and made a run at the Penguins several years ago.

They'd plug into the Western Conference nicely.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is an ownership group in place. The Owner of the new Vegas franchise is paying a HUGE expansion fee...

Kansas City discovered, in the process, that the Sprint Center would actually MAKE money by NOT having a "major league" tenant. They've generally been right, even if you could count KU games held there as "Major League." So there is NO prospective owner willing to fulfill heightened KC revenue demands.

After all these years, Seattle approved a plan where (the still named but rights no longer being paid by) Key Arena will (again) be gutted and internally rebuilt, with a Tim Leiweke-led group in charge of the rebuild and David Bonderman and Jerry Bruckheimer seeking to bring an NHL team to Seattle. This while the new owners of the Houston Rockets are showing interest in NHL. If Houston pans out, figure one expansion team and one relocation target for the Arizona Coyotes (who are still trying to squeeze another new arena out of the Valley of the Sun) down the road. In Seattle, it'll probably be a year before ground is broken.

Seattle or Houston both look like attractive markets.

Can the Rockets building accommodate a 200' rink ?

It seems obvious that the NHL is wanting to add Team #32 (to the Western Conference) in the next few years.

Seattle (which still needs to build a rink) has a longer lead time, so their prospective owners need to be sucking up NOW, and get that franchise awarded to them, and then break ground ASAP.

Pounder - Looks like you scooped this !

ESPN is reporting that the Bruckenheimer group has been invited to apply for the expansion franchise.

Reported expansion fee - $650 million ! (that's a nice $20+ million for the existing franchises).

So it looks like Seattle has the inside track, unless they balk at that fee....
(Hell, Jerry can just knock out another "Pirates of the Carribean" movie).
