The new schedule will involve 32 division (4 x 8), 40 OOD conference (10 x 4) and only 10 games vs. the other conference. Maybe each team will play home-and-home against one OOC division or perhaps one game vs each team in 2 OOC divisions.
I like the "home-and-home against
ONE OOC division" idea and here is the following format (like according to your plan). "v." represents a home game. "@" represents a road game.:
A.) - 10 games against non-conference teams of "one" division [a.k.a. East vs. West or vice-versa] (2 g.*5 tpg) [1 home & 1 road]
-----Note: "Objective A" will be based on a two year rotation
B.) - 40 games against teams from the same conference but not your division (4*10) [2 home & 2 road]
-----Note: "Objective B" will be based on a three year rotation and it will be in the following cycle of "inter-conference divisional team confrontations":
Year 1, 4, 7, 10...
East (Atlantic) vs./@ West (Central)
East (Northeast) vs./@ West (Northwest)
East (Southeast) vs./@ West (Pacific)
Year 2, 5, 8, 11...
East (Atlantic) vs./@ West (Northwest)
East (Northeast) vs./@ West (Pacific)
East (Southeast) vs./@ West (Central)
Year 3, 6, 9, 12...
East (Atlantic) vs./@ West (Pacific)
East (Northeast) vs./@ West (Central)
East (Southeast) vs./@ West (Northwest)
And the cycle repeats every 3 years, like the N.Y. Rangers example:
Ex: N.Y. Rangers vs. West Conf. - Central Div. (Year 1)
CHI - (v.), (@)
CBJ - (v.), (@)
DET - (v.), (@)
NSH - (v.), (@)
STL - (v.), (@)
Ex: N.Y. Rangers vs. West Conf. - Northwest Div. (Year 2)

COL - (v.), (@)
EDM - (v.), (@)
MIN - (v.), (@)
VAN - (v.), (@)

ANA - (v.), (@)
DAL - (v.), (@)

C.) - 32 games against teams from the same division (8*4) [4 home & 4 road]
I hope that you're impressed. Reply me back for your opinion about this.
Take care.
Yours truly,
