Las Vegas has a new arena near the Strip and a crazy old coot ready to fill it with an NHL team. It looks like that's going to happen tomorrow in a vote during an excessive heat advisory.

The smart part of this, in reality, is as long as the odds are somewhat against the Raiders moving to Las Vegas, the NHL can have the market to themselves. That's how Vegas would get value out of it.

As much as I joke about the weather, I don't think that's the concern. Vegas should do good business because the market has grown to the point that, not only can it handle this, they sold over 12,000 deposits for this LAST YEAR. The NFL potentially encroaching is a concern. Whatever the arrangement Bill Foley has with an arena that's not in his control; that's what intrigues me the most. On its face, that looks like an awkward arrangement with MGM's people. This is not a publicly owned or financed building.

I see all the myriad casinos snapping up dozens of luxury boxes and premium season ticket packages to "comp" their patrons.
This franchise should be on solid footing.

The split between eastern and western conference is currently the eastern time zone / central-mountain-pacific time zones.
After all the complaining by Detroit and Columbus, I don't see the NHL moving them back to the West.

So team #32 wants to be in the West. Hence, Quebec not getting the love.....

Quebec was never going to get the love in the first place. Bettman wants Seattle and it's pretty obvious. I'm not against that at all. The problem is they are missing a few things, namely an owner and a new arena. Other than that they're golden! ;)

Read the post from Pounder, regarding recent Seattle City Council meeting. It's a total circus up there....

Evidently, there are quite a few women on the Council who are NOT NBA / NHL fans....

Yeah I've read up on that. Complete gongshow. To be honest, I am sick of these publicly funded stadiums anyway. Or at least a good portion of it. It's one thing to make the citizens foot 10% or so of the bill. Anything more than that and you are forcing it on many people who don't care about that specific sport in the least.
