The Florida Marlins are closer to moving to Las Vegas as talks between the city and the team broke off yesterday.

Just so you know... Florida is no closer to Las Vegas than they were last week.

Las Vegas is vaporware. When the casinos start to pregnant dog and complain about any sort of public money being used to compete with them, Vegas will not have a chance.

If Portland were awake, they'd be the clear favorite. The Marlins have no options otherwise, no matter how hard they try to create the perception of one.

Didn't they offer to change their name to the "Miami" Marlins if Miami-Dade funded a new domed stadium? Is that not good enough? Speaking of which, why doesn't Joe Robbie's Stadium have a moniker that invokes the words "Huizenga" or "Blockbuster?" Was his MLB experience that embittering so as to remind everyone that the Marlins play at "Dolphins" Stadium? Bad enough "Pro Player" was still being used after the corporate sponsor went under...

Sadly I don't think MLB will fold the Florida franchises... *sigh*

I don't think the Vegas idea is as far fetched. I agree Portland could cherry pick the side if the politicians were so willing, (which would leave PGE Park for a new MLS side!!!!) but that doesn't appear to be their focus.

I'm unsure about the concession to change the name to (as it shoul've been) the Miami Marlins, but I know they're doing everything possible to get a new stadium. Everything, that is, except actually pay for it! Whatever their fate, I've got my fingers crossed that the Nationals will be the last pro club gifted a new facility.
