About this article:
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd ... b&c_id=mlbI love the format with the Houston Astros going to the AL West to put all 6 divisions with 5 teams each:
1. – National League:
1.1. – NL East:
Atlanta
Miami
N.Y. Mets
Philadelphia
Washington
1.2. – NL Central:
Chicago Cubs
Cincinnati
Milwaukee
Pittsburgh
St. Louis
1.3. – NL West:
Arizona
Colorado
L.A. Dodgers
San Diego
San Francisco
2 – American League:
2.1. – AL East:
Baltimore
Boston
N.Y. Yankees
Tampa Bay
Toronto
2.2. – AL Central:
Chicago White Sox
Cleveland
Detroit
Kansas City
Minnesota
2.3. – AL West:
Houston
L.A. Angels
Oakland
Seattle
Texas
However, I do not like the schedule format it has today. With 20 Inter-League games only? C’mon man! The staff could have done better than this. So here’s my ideal style:
Schedule Format V-1.0 (84 total games):
League play; Division play: Each team will play with all of their four rival teams within the division 12 times (in 16 total series; 8 home, 8 away) – 24 home, 24 away – for a total of 48 Intra-Division games (4 * 12 = 48).
League play; Out-of-Division play: Each team will play all ten teams of the other two divisions within the same league six times (in 20 total series; 10 home, 10 away) – 30 home, 30 away – for a total of 60 Out-of-Division games (10 * 6 =60).
Inter-League play, Cross-Division play: Each team will play all 5 teams of the same division from the other league six times (in 10 total series; 5 home, 5 away) – 15 home, 15 away – for a total of 30 Inter-League, Cross-Division games (5 * 6 =30).
Inter-League play, Non-Cross-Division Play: Each team will play all 10 teams of the other two divisions from the other league three times (in 10 total series; 5 home, 5 away) – 15 home, 15 away – for a total of 30 Inter-League, Non-Cross-Division games (10 * 3 =30).
For Inter-League play, Cross-Division play, the following natural rivalry pairings will be the following:
NL East vs. AL East:
1.) – Atlanta vs. Toronto
2.) – Miami vs. Tampa Bay
3.) – N.Y. Mets vs. N.Y. Yankees
4.) – Philadelphia vs. Boston
5.) – Washington vs. Baltimore
NL Central vs. AL Central:
1.) – Chicago Cubs vs. Chicago White Sox
2.) – Cincinnati vs. Cleveland
3.) – Milwaukee vs. Minnesota
4.) – Pittsburgh vs. Detroit
5.) – St. Louis vs. Kansas City
NL West vs. AL West:
1.) – Arizona vs. Texas
2.) – Colorado vs. Houston
3.) – L.A. Dodgers vs. L.A. Angels
4.) – San Diego vs. Seattle
5.) – San Francisco vs. Oakland
