Where do think the Saints will be in 2008?

New Orleans?
San Antonio?
Los Angeles?

If Tom Benson has the coronary he deserves, the NFL will actually stick with New Orleans... but I'm thinking that in 2008, they'll be tempted by Los Angeles, because I think New Orleans will still have more than their share of problems by then.

If Tom Benson is even the slightest bit lucid, he'll probably be in San Antonio. Los Angeles would be more logical, but they aren't close to ready to throw money at a stadium the way San Antonio is.

San Antonio, bc the NFL doesn't want a nit wit owner like Benson in Los Angeles.

The reason I posted my comment the WAY I posted it is because, thanks to Al Davis, the NFL cannot tell Tom Benson where to go.

Fortunately for the NFL, Los Angeles and surrounding communities won't fall for the old Al Davis tricks, and by rule Tom Benson suffers the same fate.

Yes, Benson is the rub with moving the Saints to LA, along with a sense of compassion, which the NFL has never had. I can't see the league allowing a permanent move to S.A. It's true that LA hasn't shown much ardor for the return of the NFL, so it might be a case of the NFL trying to "push the noodle".

The NFL didn't allow Al Davis to go to Los Angeles... and Davis went anyway, with help from the courts. That's Benson's out.

Benson's hitch is that he ain't paying for a dime of a new stadium. That's why San Antonio is more likely his destination if he still has control.

Of course, if Benson keeps up his on-camera tirades, nobody will want to touch that guy with a 10-meter cattle prod.

Didn't Tom Benson's purchase of the Saints (c.1985) from John Mecom prevent the franchise from moving to Jacksonville?

Didn't the Saints not have a winning season until 1987?
Weren't the Saints a good candidate to move even before Hurricane Katrina?

Doesn't the franchise only exist because the NFL needed Congressional approval for its merger with the AFL?

Who is Ray Nagin and who let him publicly suggest that the NFL offer New Orleans "the Cleveland plan?"

Yes to all of those.

LA wanted the Raiders because they didn't have to build a stadium. That's not the case now; if Benson does try to move without league approval, there's little chance he can get a new stadium.

Coincidentally, it seems that Tags is in LA now going over plans.

Just warning Ouija not to let facts get in the way of the fashionable perception game going on here. ;D

Well, this should be said: Ray Nagin was elected on a platform of bringing "back" jobs to New Orleans. In short, he was going to join the chorus of local governments who subsidize private enterprise to the tune of $50 BILLION per year, all for the promise of jobs that, well, said promises tend to fall into the "overpromise/underdeliver" category.

Lest you think this is a criticism of Nagin, who do you think funded his campaign (and likely the campaign of his main opponent)?
