I got to thinking that it would be nice if Cincinnati and Indianapolis were in different conferences to help both teams have their games televised in Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana (especially Louisville) even when they play at the same time.
AFC West - Oakland, San Diego, Denver, Kansas City AFC East - Buffalo, New York Jets, New England, Baltimore AFC South - Miami, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Houston AFC North - Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Detroit NFC West - San Francisco, Seattle, Arizona, St. Louis NFC East - Dallas, Philadelphia, Washington, New York Giants NFC North - Cincinnati, Chicago, Minnesota, Green Bay NFC South - Atlanta, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Carolina
Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland are still in a regionally compact division, and perhaps Detroit would fare better in the AFC. Cincinnati is roughly the same distance from Chicago as Detroit, and the Bengals have done surprisingly well against the NFC North's current membership (5 straight wins). Both conferences get better geographical balance in the Midwest. Thoughts?
