Texas gained 50 on Cal that week and only 12 was due to Cal losing points, the week after Cal gained 108 while Texas only gained 53 for a net 55 Cal gain. Those 12 were less than they gained from Utah the week both were idle. Its not that big a deal.

Let me get this straight. Cal blows out Washington while Texas almost and should have lost to Kansas, baring an official calls, and when Cal gain's points, you think that it somehow relates to the rest of this? You're reaching big time now.

You point out that Texas gained their points because of other teams losing, but that Cal lost points puts the lie to that argument. If there were more points to be had, then Cal should have gained points, not lose them. This means that people put Texas past Cal on their ballots even though Texas didn't play and Cal blew out their opponents. It remains obvious that the fix was in.

Good or bad, this is how the latest BCS "controversy" will be remembered...

<<the 2001 Holiday Bowl was the one they actually won, with a Applewhite-led comeback against 8-3 Washington>>Those Holiday Bowls all run together. One of the problems with the current system where #2 Big 12 always goes to Cotton, #3 to Holiday, #2 Big 10 to Citrus, etc.

<<I guess I just never viewed a Mack Brown Texas team having as precipitous of a collapse as that 1998 Kansas State team>>

Not quite the same as KSU, but he could sympathize with Cal as he had teams that expected a BCS bowl, faced "lesser" opponents in the Holiday or Cotton Bowl, and lost. Texas was 6th in the BCS and counting on the Fiesta last year until KSU upset OU. Texas had a shot in 2002, but the Big 10 and Pac 10 had the #4 and #5 teams in the country as their runners-up.

You ignore Cal taking more points from Utah the week both were idle. Cal finished ahead of Texas. Maybe the fix was in to try to get Cal in.

And the with half-hearted effort put into some of these ballots, some probably moved Cal up one week and then the next week, due to the upsets, they didn't have to think as hard-there were only 3 likely choices-Cal, Texas and Utah-and some said, "wait a minute, I forgot about Texas last week (when it was Cal, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, Michigan, UGA, ...). So yes, it could very easily relate to the previous week when Cal gained 108 and Texas 53. Remember when ASU blew out Iowa, but Iowa was still ranked and they weren't? At least until the next week.

So? Is that abnormal? That's what you're missing. You keep pointing out normal things as if they are adnormal.

It's not odd that a team has a close game with a bad team and drops.

It's not odd that a team that is idle goes up in a poll.

It's not odd that a team that is idle goes down in a poll.

It's not odd that teams that win go up in a poll.

You can keep claiming that these normal things somehow abnormal, but you're just flapping your gums. The normal, is normal and is not a significant event.

However, when a team blows out an opponent and losses ground it abnormal and suspicious. When a team blows out an opponent and an idol team passes them on some ballots that's also suspicious. These things raise red flags and listing 100 normal things would not counter them so quit trying.
