Thursday, May 1, 2014

TAMPA, Fla. – USL PRO is pleased to announce the return of professional soccer to St. Louis, Missouri by awarding an expansion franchise to SLSG PRO LLC that will join the league starting in the 2015 season. Longtime St. Louis business executive and soccer advocate Jim Kavanaugh will serve as CEO of SLSG PRO, overseeing the operations of the franchise.

Kavanaugh is also the CEO of World Wide Technology which he co-founded 1990. WWT is one of FORTUNE’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” and has grown into a global systems integrator with more than $6 billion in annual revenue and more than 2,400 employees worldwide.

St. Louis is the third USL PRO expansion team announced for 2015, joining Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC and Tulsa Roughnecks FC, with additional announcements expected in the coming months.

“We are thrilled to welcome St. Louis into USL PRO starting with the 2015 season,” USL CEO Alec Papadakis said. “St. Louis, more than any other U.S. city, has significantly contributed to the development and growth of American soccer on all levels – youth, collegiate and professional. Through the years, St. Louis players, coaches and soccer executives have greatly impacted not only the game of soccer, but the history of American soccer itself.

Should be mentioned: Sacramento announced tonight's game at Hughes as already a sellout. Another 20K crowd.

Wednesday, June 4, 2014

ST. LOUIS -- Saint Louis Football Club has been unveiled as the newest member of USL PRO, beginning play in 2015. The franchise, which was originally announced in early May, revealed its official team name Monday before launching a fan vote for the team’s new logo Wednesday.

“We believe Saint Louis FC will embody all that is great about soccer in this community,” Saint Louis FC President Jim Kavanaugh said. “With a long history of contributing to the game in the United States, we felt simplicity was key. We wanted a name that all of St. Louis could connect with.”

Both logos featured in the fan vote set out to achieve a connection to St. Louis and the city’s rich history.

USL PRO Headed to Louisville in 2015
Orlando City USL PRO franchise relocates

Image

Wednesday, June 4, 2014

TAMPA, Fla. – USL PRO announced today that the franchise rights owned by Orlando City SC have been transferred to Louisville, Kentucky. The Orlando USL PRO franchise will relocate to Louisville, effective for the 2015 season, and will be owned and operated by a group of local investors led by architect Wayne Estopinal, with Orlando City also retaining an ownership share.

As Orlando City FC joins Major League Soccer for the 2015 season, the Louisville USL PRO franchise – Louisville City FC – will serve as the official USL PRO affiliate of Orlando City SC, pending the approval of both USL PRO and MLS.

The Louisville City FC ownership group has been working with the city to finalize an agreement to play at Louisville Slugger Field, home of the Louisville Bats.

“USL PRO is thrilled to welcome Louisville City FC for the 2015 season,” USL CEO Alec Papadakis said. “The beautiful city of Louisville, on the banks of the Ohio River, features a rich collegiate soccer tradition and is destined to become one of the top professional soccer cities in the United States. The distinguished leadership of Wayne Estopinal, combined with the strong and proven mentorship of Phil Rawlins and Adrian Heath from the Orlando City partnership group, provides Louisville City FC with an outstanding professional soccer organization.

“All of us at USL PRO look forward to working with Mayor Greg Fischer, the Louisville City FC ownership, and The Coopers – Louisville’s passionate supporters group – to bring exciting professional soccer to Louisville.”

Switchbacks FC Unveil Logo
Club's official song, 'Switchback Attack', also revealed at event

Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release -- http://www.switchbacksfc.com

Thursday, June 5, 2014

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC unveiled their first logo this evening limiting out on available space at the Ivywild School Gymnasium with 250 fans. The evening was filled with the Switchbacks new song "Switchback Attack”, hype video, motion graphics, song, and chants from the COS Colonials.

The Switchbacks crest has its roots in the Colorado Springs Flag emblem with the hexagon shape and sunburst behind the soccer ball. The entire movement of the mark represents the switchbacks movement which is defined by the club as a sudden change of direction. The hexagon border stops short of making final terminations in order to allow the shape of an “S”. Mountain peaks are subtly referenced on the top and bottom of the mark. The five vertical red lines represent the five Colorado military bases. The cross fluery represents the term “believe” to the club.
