Here is a starting point to discuss the 2005 coaching hotseat and speculate who will be on the move. Locking the old thread from 2003 to start fresh for this year.

As we already know, Temple will be looking for a new coach, so feel free to discuss that opening again here.

KENT STATE AROUND THE BEAT Line coach Mottola not retained
By David Carducci
Record-Courier staff writer

Kent State’s inability to run the football and season-long difficulties in protecting quarterback Michael Machen during a disappointing 1-10 campaign led to what is expected to be the only off-season change in the Golden Flashes’ coaching staff.

Less than one week after finishing the 2005 season with an ugly 35-3 loss to arch-rival Akron, Kent State announced that offensive line coach Bill Mottola would not be retained for the 2006 season. Athletic director Laing Kennedy said there would be no further changes to head coach Doug Martin’s staff.

“I appreciate everything Bill has done for the Kent State program over the last five seasons,” said Martin. “This was a very difficult decision to make, and although our offense had excelled in recent years, I felt that it was time to make a change for the future of our program.”

Mottola had been on the Kent State coaching staff since 2001.

The former offensive coordinator at Western Kentucky and offensive line coach at the U.S. Military Academy was put in the same difficult position as the rest of the Flashes coaches this past season, tutoring a unit that was devastated by injury. The search for his replacement will begin immediately.

We're still worried about Jerry Glanville staying for only 1 more year. Anyone have any inside info?

Thank you!

Glanville is now the head coach at Portland State.

SMU, Baylor, & Arkansas are looking for coaches. A&M got a solid hire in Mike Sherman. He can go 7-5 to undefeated from year to year at A&M. That's really the best they can hope for in the big 12 south --- occasional dominance and usual 3rd or 4th place finishes.

I would strongly look at fired A&M coach Dennis Franchione if I were SMU or Baylor... especially Baylor. Franchione can get Baylor to 7-5 each year and could get SMU to his heights at TCU. Franchione is gold in the metroplex, central Texas, and westward. UTSA would also be smart to lock him up if possible if they are going to IA.

Idaho may want to keep an eye on the Mike Price situation at UTEP in the next few years. If UTEP lets him go and Idaho's coach does nothing, he would be a VERY smart choice to restore Idaho football. He is still a very well known and popular football name in that region.

RC Slocum and Billy Tubbs were seen playing Golf together in Beaumont. Sounds like an interview to me...
