So when there were 20 they were getting 60 mil or 3 mil each. When there are 13 they get 40 mil or about 3 mil each. You think they make this stuff up as they go?

"Boise and San Diego State both have their nonfootball sports parked in the Big West Conference. CBSSports.com reported Thursday that Boise will pay the Big East $1 million each of the next three seasons as sort of an “entry fee” ostensibly to defray travel costs. All of the current WCC schools are in California."

All I need to say about how bad this article was. I assume they're paying the Big WEST 1 million for the next three years.

If we assume Boise and SDSU get a 75% share of the revenue as football only members, that makes 12.5 shares splitting 40 million = 3.2 million per share. So a 75% share yields 2.4 million. Even if the Big East can add one more and get up to 45 million, the football only members would only see the money increase to 2.5 (or 2.55 if a football only is added) million.

And even if they get an 85% share they're only looking at 2.72-2.89 million. If you have to pay the Big West 1 million I fail to see how this is a good situation.

Assuming the numbers are correct, you're dead on...it's a waste if they are getting a total of 1.4 when you can get similar in the MWC with less travel for all-other sports.

Key though is the hope that the TV contract is more since the markets are more appealing. But it does open ip the idea that if you had an all-sports conference with 8 western and 8 eastern schools in 2 geo divisions with LIMITED cross over games, it would almost have to be a better TV contract.

Problem is that in the perfect world, you'd get to pick and chose the schools. And that's the problem. The best revenue solution, if exit fees were minimal, would be to take SOME of the MWC and merge with SOME of the BE schools to create a 16 school conference.

Again, TV money has market penetration as the top factor with market being #2 (in the past, "market" was further down the list in favor of following, on field success, etc...but networks are paying a premium on live broadcast content ie college sports.

So unfortunately, I don't see that TV driven conference ever happening...too many moving parts with schools having to leave 2 conferences AND start something new.

So we won't likely ever see a N.A.C:
West: Boise St., SJSU, Nevada, UNLV, SDSU, New Mexico, BYU, Houston, SMU
East: UMass, UConn, Temple, Cincinnati, ECU, Memphis, Tulane, USF, UCF

Edit:SEC,thanks for posting the FB only individual school ranking by Forbes.Too bad they listed ESPN/Big 10 deal at $10 million per year instead of at about $100 million.No wonder they rank Ohio State so low.I always wonder about these rankings using "secret proprietary formulas".How many other mistakes are embedded into their data?

Indeed, Freaked. I also noticed certain error, even with replies in the comments section. The writer needs to proof and double-check figures (typos & beyond) and interpretations, including the Internet version.
Since the article is based off institutional self-reporting to the USDE, that's a source for error in itself. It's always good to take certain statistics with a grain of salt, and make judgments on the level of clean objectivity presented.
