Brett McMurphy article discussing BE tv deal situation at http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story ... media-deal
"The Big East and ESPN are finalizing a seven-year media rights deal worth $130 million
through the 2019-20 school year, league sources told ESPN's Brett McMurphy on Thursday.
In 2011, ESPN offered a new nine-year deal to the Big East worth $1.17 billion or an average of $130 million
annually. However, the Big East's presidents voted to turn down the deal that would have earned football members nearly $14 million a year."
130 million annually to 130 million total. Ironic. A painful lesson learned. Something about a bird in a bush I think.
One wonders that in 2011 if those BE Presidents were delusional about the conference's worth, or were falsely told a bigger offer would be coming from elsewhere?
Maybe some of those BE Presidents knew then they had membership offers forthcoming from elsewhere, and sabotaging the offer would make leaving easier.
In 2011, what advice or recommendation did the BE Commish give the BE Presidents as to action?
