Anyone got any behind the scenes info on Chuck Long getting fired at SDSU? I know his record was garbage, but so was that team when he walked in the door. They were getting their scholarships cut because of poor student performance under the prior administration. Apparently Long fixed that, but was fired before he could turn the team around on the field. I think the administration may regret that move. That job looked like a 5 year turnaround and they cut Long after 3. It looked like Long had a very promising freshman QB...

I don't think Hoke will be able to turn that program around in 3 years, but Long has dug it out from the scholarship hole it was in at least. We will see.

Funny that in 2005 I was speculating that Hoke was on the hot seat.

I'll say this, he's put together one of the best coaching staffs I've seen in some time at SDSU. The running gag is that the staff is way to good for the existing talent.

As for Long, it didn't work out. The coach has the tasks of getting the talent and performing well. When a coach does a solid job with suspect talent, it still doesn't mean they should retain the job when the school could get a coach that can do both. If that person fails, you find another and so on.
