I crunched some numbers...

Final Four Appearances (1997-2006)

ACC = 10
Big 10 = 9
SEC = 5
Big 12 = 5
Pac 10 = 4
BE = 3 + 2 from former CUSA Members (Marquette, UL)
WAC = 1
Colonial = 1

National Championships (1997 - 2006)
ACC = 3
BE = 3
SEC = 2
Big 10 = 1
Pac 10 = 1

Based on year (NC = National Champion):
2006 = SEC 2, Pac 10 1, Colonial 1......... NC = SEC
2005 = Big 10 2, ACC 1, BE(CUSA) 1......... NC = ACC
2004 = ACC 2, BE 1, Big 12 1.................... NC = BE
2003 = Big 12 2, BE (CUSA) 1, BE 1 ........... NC = BE
2002 = Big 12 2, ACC 1, Big 10 1.............. NC = ACC
2001 = ACC 2, Big 10 1, Pac 10 1.................. NC = ACC
2000 = Big 10 2, ACC 1, SEC 1 ................... NC = Big 10
1999 = Big 10 2, BE 1, ACC 1 ..................... NC = BE
1998 = SEC 1, WAC 1, ACC 1, Pac 10 1 ........ NC = SEC
1997 = Pac 10 1, Big 10 1, ACC 1, SEC 1 ........NC = Pac 10

BB Credits (2001-2006) = Total sum from NCAA
http://www1.ncaa.org/finance/bkb_dist.html

BE = 84
Big 12 = 81
ACC = 80
Big 10 = 74
SEC = 74
Pac 10 = 67

NCAA Credits are calculated as follows:
You get 1 unit for each member of the league that got to the NCAAs and then you earn 1 additional unit for every 'win' each team has getting to the Final Four. Once in the Final Four, no more units are earned.

Credits for this year by the Big 6 BB conferences:

SEC: 13
Pac 10: 16
ACC: 14
Big 12: 10
Big 10: 14
BE: 13

There are no more points earned once you get to the Final 4.
My previous post contains a link that shows how many credits were earned in the previous 6 years.

So, if I understand it correctly, the new 6-year total should read as follows:

BEC = 87 (5.58 per member)
B12 = 82 (6.83 per member)
ACC = 79 (6.58 per member)
SEC = 76 (6.33 per member)
BTC = 71 (6.45 per member)
PTC = 66 (6.60 per member)

My guess is that my "per member" averages are off for the Big East & the ACC because of expansion with credits for new members left behind at their old conferences. The ACC would suffer most in this situation since they do not get the credits for their new membes & the Big East to a lesser extent because they get to keep credits left behind by BC, VPI, & Miami but do not get the credits earned by their 5 new members.

Miami made the tournament a few times and BC as well since 2000 (VT didn't make the tourney once). The ACC would have gained a total of 11 credits. The farthest either got was the Sweet 16.

The BE really lost out because they can't count the Final 4 appearances of UL and Marquette. The total credits by the 5 teams was 29 credits since 2000. That makes CUSA the big loser because they will need to make those up somehow.

Wow! That means that after you subtract the credits for BC & Miami but add in the credits earned by the 5 new members before they joined the Big East, current Big East schools have earned 115 credits over the past 6 years, or 7.2 per school. The ACC moves up to second place with 90 credits with a best per school average of 7.5.

Taking this years credits earned and subtracting the credits from 2002 and subsequently adding the credits from this year:

Credits earned this year:
BE - 19
ACC - 10
Big 10 - 9
Big 12 - 16
Pac 10 - 14
SEC - 10

New values for revenue distribution:
BE - 94
ACC - 77
Big 12 - 79
Big 10 - 67
Pac 10 - 65
SEC - 76

The amount for unit in 2007 was $195,154. I expect this value to go up a little bit so for purposes of calculation, I will assume a round value of $200k per unit (which will be revised once the NCAA published this again)

Here is the estimated revenue then:
BE - 18,800,000
ACC - 15,400,000
Big 12 - 15,800,000
Big 10 - 13,400,000
Pac 10 - 13,000,000
SEC - 15,200,000

I will update the final four and national championship post when the tourney is over next week.
