I've always been surprised that BC hasn't brought it back to a D1 level yet. Being in the ACC would be a big recruiting advantage in the northeast. With Syracuse in the mix, maybe it's an incentive.

Select division and sport to see map and listing (below map) of lacrosse schools.

You can click on "Conference" heading in the list of schools to sort by conference.

Seriously. Acc was looking strong with there 6. But with Rutgers leaving the big east and Maryland out of the ACC, everyone is screwed now, 1 short of 6

B1G LAX: Michigan, Ohio St, Penn St, Maryland, Rutgers & TBD...
ACC LAX: Notre Dame, Syracuse, Virginia, North Carolina, Duke & TBD...
Catholic LAX: Gtown, Nova, St Johns, Providence, Marquette & TBD...
NEC LAX: Robert Morris, Mt St Mary's, Wagner, Sacred Heart, Bryant & TBD...
All one team shy of the automatic bid...

American East, Ivy League , and the Patriot League are all set.

MAAC LAX: now has 6 LAX playing members and could drop all affiliate members with the addition of Quinpipiac and taking back Fairfield from the ECAC (which is about to lose the B1G schools).

CAA LAX: Hofstra, Drexel, Towson, UDel + UMass (A10) St Joeph's (A10) (possible A10 take over if they get Hofstra/Drexel)

ECAC LAX: Air Force (MWC), Denver (Summit), Bellamie (D2), Hobart (D3)+ (ex-MAAC affiliates) VMI (Big South), Detriot Mercy (Horizon), Jacksonville (Atlantic Sun) & (current independents) Mecer (Atlantic Sun), and High Point (Big South) which would be 9 but I'm thinking that unless the NEC is planning on adding a school with LAX they really need that autobid so Hobart (who in the NEC's footprint in NY) may get invited as an affiliate member giving them an autobid and leaving this new ECAC at 8.

UMass-Lowell is upgrading from D2 to American East and is adding LAX (didn't need them for an AQ but it grows the sport)
http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2013/ ... story.html

Also I didn't see this on here but John Hopkins is considering joining the Big Ten as a LAX only member which would give them 6 and the AQ (assuming they don't add another in UNC/UVA/Duke/ND)

B1G LAX: Michigan, Ohio St, Penn St, Maryland, Rutgers & John Hopkins (D3)
Big East: Gtown, Nova, St Johns, Providence, Marquette & Denver (Summit)

ACC LAX: Notre Dame, Syracuse, Virginia, North Carolina, Duke & TBD...
NEC LAX: Robert Morris, Mt St Mary's, Wagner, Sacred Heart, Bryant & TBD...

Both still one team shy of the automatic bid...possible additions:
Air Force>>>>ACC
Hobart>>>>NEC

New LAX conference (or new ECAC):
Remaining ECAC LAX: Bellamie (D2)
Ex-MAAC affiliates: VMI (SoCon), Detroit Mercy (Horizon) and Jacksonville (Atlantic Sun)
Current independents: Mercer (SoCon) and High Point (Big South)

Replace Bellarmine & Detroit with Furman & Richmond and you have the new ASun men's lacrosse league that starts play this year (2013-14).

I really thought the ACC should have pushed hard for JHU as a regional replacement in Maryland/DC for the departing Maryland.
I'm biased, but since UMass has a long tradition of playing ACC schools in lacrosse both home and away, I'd love to see them added as the lone affiliate member if for anything, to make a lax trips north to Syracuse worthwhile for the southern schools.

The SoCon will have 3 of the 6 Atlantic Sun men's lacrosse members come Spring 2015:

VMI
Mercer
Furman
Jacksonville (Atlantic Sun)
High Point (Big South)
Richmond (Atlantic 10)

If that isn't enough for the SoCon to start sponsoring it, my guess is that everyone goes back to the ECAC.

Quinnipiac leaving the NEC drops them to five. The NEC could be another escape route for the ECAC and Detroit Mercy should they not be able to stay in the MAAC.

For the women's side:

The Atlantic Sun will still have five counting affiliates Howard and Detroit Mercy. Delaware State is independent and would be an option with Howard in the league.

The American Lacrosse Conference will be down to Florida and Vanderbilt after 3 of its 6 members go to the Big 10, and Johns Hopkins goes independent. Do they go to the Atlantic Sun, or perhaps join the Big East?
