UAH's situation boils down to something out of their control:

If after Notre Dame and WMU depart, the CCHA remnants (4) merge into the WCHA (6) to form a 10-team WCHA, UAH is screwed as far as getting an invitation from anybody.

If instead, the WCHA grabs a few CCHA schools (including UAF), and the CCHA survives by luring the 4 AHA schools to join,
there would seem to be openings in one or both of the CCHA (6 or 7 schools) and the AHA (reduced to 8 schools).

Obviously, UAH is hoping for the latter scenario. If the CCHA consists of only 6 schools, I would think UAH is in.
Travel is an obstacle, but honestly a trip or two from western NY, western PA, or Ohio / LP Michigan down to Huntsville is NOT that onerous.
The kids would like some warmth in the dead of winter.

I hope UAH gets in. It's good for hockey to have some seeds planted in the South.

WCHA has extended invitations to 5 CCHA teams (all but Notre Dame, who didn't attend meeting).

This is an awesome contingengy for the CCHA schools (and horrible news for Alabama-Huntsville).

I would expect UAF and LSS to jump on this invitation.

Western Michigan is hoping to go elsewhere on Notre Dame's coattails (when, oh when will ND figure things out ???)

Not sure if BGSU and Ferris State will accept the WCHA offer, or pursue the 4 AHA schools (probably + UAH).
One of the conditions of the AHA schools moving was UAF disappearing from the CCHA picture, which now appears like a done deal.

The article 2 posts above suggests this is the end of the CCHA.

That MAY be jumping to conclusions.

Certainly some CCHA teams will immediately jump to the WCHA (taking no longer than the required processes of getting
approvals from their ADs / Presidents / Board of Regents, etc.)

I still think there is the possibility of a 7-team CCHA (2 current CCHA members = 4 AHA members + UAH).

We should know soon, based on whether BGSU and Ferris hold off on immediately acccepting WCHA membership (which would indicate they are still pursuing the other option).
