I wasn't sure where to put this, but here it goes.

Schools on the move are generally always trying to get into a better conference - whatever that means. Maybe they want to be in a more regional conference or want more money or want to be with rivals or whatever it may be. Sometimes dropping/adding football will open doors to other conferences that may be better or worse. Maybe the difficulty of getting into a conference weighs in?

What I am not sure of is the "ladder rankings" of the conferences. I'm sure the rankings can get very subjective, but I was wondering how everyone here would rank the conferences. Maybe we could all come together and come up with a ranking system?

There are 30+ conferences (including football-only like MVFC and Pioneer.)

Here's what I have so far for my own rankings (intentionally left very incomplete so others may add on different tiers or rearrange without too much work):

Tier I) PAC-12, SEC, B1G
Tier II) ACC, XII, Big East
Tier III) Mt West, American
Tier IV) C-USA, MAC
Tier V) Sun Belt

I assume this is rankings in terms of basketball and not football? Or is this for all sports?

I'd almost be tempted to move the Big XII up to the top tier and also group the Sun Belt with C-USA and the MAC.

I agree with those rankings.

Big 12 has lost schools to all three Tier 1 conferences, I don't think they should be in the same level as them.
Sun Belt has lost quite a few teams to C-USA over the years, so I can see putting them a level below, however I don't think there's much of a gap, and I like conference if only it can stay together.
