Nice post Cracker, but your conference would have too much of a geographic spread, so a polite veto to your proposal. 8-)

But the whole point of a "T & A" conference is to have a nice geographic spread...
;D

Maybe your right cracker, it's ok to have a geographical spread in conferences, people have different opinions, but I just think your proposal is spread a little too much.

Bucknuts, I like your Big Ten proposal, but I suggest you put Notre Dame to the East division, for a few reasons, 1. It would ease on travel costs signifigantly. 2. They'll play Michigan/Mich. St., Ohio St. and perhaps Penn St. and BC regularly. and number 3, Minnesota would not like the idea of Wisconsin being seperated from their division. Just a suggestion. :)

Wouldn't somebody first have to remind the people in the Twin Cities that Minnesota plays Big Ten football in their town before they could begin to be upset about being separated from the Badgers?

Not bad on your new SEC, DNDFan! Of course it would be a big conference but there's no limit on dreaming, is there? :)

Here is a really BIG conference idea… I propose the Super-Duper football only conference of 16 schools, a.k.a., the “More Often than Not Conference”. Yeah, I know the 16 schools breaks datrain021’s first rule, but we could always petition for an exception. ;D It would be initially made up of the schools that have been in the year-end Top 25 polls (AP and USA Today) more often than not over the past ten years (at least 11 out of 20 times). The initial conference membership would be comprised of the following schools, split into two divisions. The divisions would be geographic in nature and would need to be realigned as the membership changes (more on this below). For 2002, the ten-year running total of times the school has appeared in the Top 25 polls is listed after the school. The max “score” would be twenty, if the school appeared in both polls, each year, over the ten-year period.

East:
Florida St. (20)
Florida (19)
Miami (17)
Tennessee (17)
Virginia Tech. (17)
Penn St. (16)
Auburn (12)
Georgia (12)

West:
Michigan (20)
Kansas St. (18)
Nebraska (18)
Texas (16)
Ohio St. (14)
Colorado (12)
Notre Dame (12)
Texas A&M (11)

I propose that the Super-Duper Conference has rolling membership. You keep your current conference affiliation for other sports, but if you are one of the top 16 football teams over the past ten-year period, as determined by the polls, you are a member of this conference for football only. Schools not currently in the conference such as Alabama (10), Oregon (10), Oklahoma (8), and Southern California (7) would through the “polls point system” replace those existing conference schools, that in future years had a lower ten-year combined poll score than Alabama, etc. Any school dropping out of this conference would resume football competition in their previous conference affiliation.

Yeah I know – there would be a host of logistical problems regarding scheduling, recruiting, and the financial aspects of such an arrangement. But it’s only being proposed for fun... You have to admit that it would be neat to see these big time football schools play a divisional round-robin schedule and then have the divisional champions play a championship game. Not only would these conference schools have brutal schedules, but also it would force a few non-traditional match-ups. ;)
