Besides not happening your conference proposal could be renamed the cusa east always non bcs warmed over conference.A merger of cusa and the BE WAS REJECTED IN 2003.

Nice try on your Big South East Conference GKGE.

However if Babe ever took on a BE - Cusa make over for the new conference. The Northern schools would make they had at least 6 -7 schools. They would look to UMass and or Temple all sports first. L'ville, Cinn., and USF are already in. UCF would join as a travel partner foe USF. Memphis would be given preference over ECU and So. Miss. for the final spot because of their BB and Liberty Bowl connection. ECU is the first runner up if either UMass or Temple decline based on location and previous consideration by the BE. Sorry So. Miss would be the last to be asked because of location and the fact that your BB team needs alot of work. You have great FB though and I love watching So. Miss FB on week nights and late Sat. night games.

We 'll name the new conference the Big North East or the Eastern Athletic Conference for the sake this rebuttal.

Naw, I like the Big South East, or Tigersharktwo's idea. How about the Big United States of America Southeastern Conference.

West Virginia and Kentucky are southern states, so with teams in TN, KY, WV, NC, FL and MS, and only teams in CT, NJ, NY and PA, there's more to do with the South East than the Northeast, so it should be name the Big South East or the Big USA South East.

I think taking a perspective on this from someone who lives in the State of Maine is important. We can split the divisions like this:

The Dirty South Division:

Central Florida
East Carolina
Louisville
Memphis
South Florida
Southern Miss

The Down East Division (Down=South)

Connecticut
Cinncinnati
Pittsburgh
Rutgers
Syracuse
West Viginia

Now if you don't like Southern Miss, replace them with UAB.

I think CT is a very nice Southeastern State, just like New Jersey. When you live in Maine, do like the Maineiacs do.

Exactly Tigershark!

I think the CUSA should eat the Big East.

I dunno, TS2. To hear Gunner's discussion of ACC thinking, Villanova might make a good ACC candidate. That might even become plausible if the Cats ramp up football.

IMHO TS2 is right in his belief that the BE does not need a 9th FB team. I see 2 reasons why a 9 school conference is better than an 8 school conference.

The first is the scheduling "problem." This is a concern for the WAC and SBC, but should not be for the BE or BABE. The reason is attendance and $. While the BE/BABE schools average attendance is below that of the SEC and Big 10, it is far above the average attendance of the WAC, MAC or SBC. BE/BABE schools can afford pay other schools to for non returned home games and also afford the higher appearance fees that BCS schools normally want in home and home appearances.

The second is the problem of losing a school. I believe that this what caused the problem with the ACC raid. Some schools feared that the BE would go the way of the SWC. Had the BE had 9 or 10 FB schools, Miami might have been the only school to leave. Now however, their is no one to poach. The ACC is full at 12, and the Big 10 does not appear to want anyone but ND, and they are NOT part of the FB alliance and IMHO would not be part of BABE. (Though they might continue the bowl alliance.) BABE would not have to worry about a school not meeting the 15K attendance requirement.

However, I do believe that there may be ample reason for the FB schools to split off into a new conference anyway. In this case, BABE could afford to be picky, and wait several years to add a school that they believed would help them.
