Recently, several posters bragged on their rate of success in making predictions. This board is for those who want to bragg NEXT year.

For starters:
1. Which conference will be the next to add a team?
2. Which will be the next to lose one?
3. Which team will move? Or will a team move or down?
4. What bowl will get the 5th BCS spot?
5. How many times in the first cycle will a team not currently in the BCS get a bid?
6. Will the new BE be able to keep its bid, or will the "BE rule" finally catch up with them?

Make your best guesses on these, and/or add your own. I just wish that I had started this thread three years ago.

Enjoy,

So where are all the Big East braggards now?

I've got it!

The Pac-10 becomes the Pac-12 by inviting Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico and Universidad de Guadalajara.

The Big 12 counters by dumping Baylor for Universidad Autonoma de Nueva Leon.

The ACC drops Wake Forest and settles for McGill University.

The University of British Columbia, stuck in a tug of war between the Mountain West and the WAC, drops football and joins the Big West.

The WAC responds by accepting the University of Manitoba as Louisiana Tech's travel partner after Conference USA takes the University of North Dakota out from under the WAC's collective noses.

On a lighter note, I wonder what happens WHEN C-USA realizes that they can't get a consensus on a 12th school. Do they go crawling back to Army?

Even lighter than that, how 'bout this scenario...

C-USA accepts Miami of Ohio, winks that Marshall has a lot to do with that decision. Travel partners, baby!

Congratulations, WAC. Your prize in these sweepstakes is North Texas.

Condolences to the Sun Belt, who croak under the weight of new NCAA standards. The WAC still ignores Idaho.

The Cotton Bowl is temporarily moved to Texas Stadium while awaiting the new Cowboys stadium, making this the 5th bowl. (Houston is the alternative here, but it's scary how much sense this makes to me.)

The BCS will finagle a way to keep the stature of the Big East alive while well-heeled forces from throughout the country try to build a major stadium for SUNY Stony Brook (or pick a campus near NYC) and elevate the stature of said campus to the flagship campus of the SUNY system. Wait, do you think that belongs in the heavier section?

Pounder, good one!! At least McGill University would expand the ACC market, eh?!

The comment on the new Texas stadium has merit, especially if Jerry Jones gets the near-100,000 capacity model of his dreams. Could even be enough to lure the B-12 champ for good, and would serve as a nice new spot for the Red River shootout. But that scenario would likely mean no formal anchor for the Fiesta and no formal bowl-tie in for the BE champ unless it remains with the Orange Bowl. We'll see.

I'm still laughing about McGill... :D

Okay, I'll play. These would be my guesses as of today:
1. Which conference will be the next to add a team?
CUSA. There the only ones with the perceived need. Unless you want to say the ACC, in that they haven't really added anyone until next year when Miami and VT actually play.

2. Which will be the next to lose one?
3. Which team will move? Or will a team move or down?

This means, for me, knowing who CUSA will invite and whether they'll accept. I'm not yet sold on the prospect of someone leaving the MAC, at least not to CUSA as it looks now and not with the changes to the BCS. My gut won't let me accept Temple joining CUSA, either. So, I guess the WAC "loses" La. Tech, despite the hawing from Tulane and Memphis. Obviously I'm less sure about this one.

4. What bowl will get the 5th BCS spot?
Cotton would be best because of a) new, neutral location, b) history, and c) I'd assume easier contracts to break out of in reshuffling bowl allegiances. I also assume the Bowl will eventually be played in a new Texas Stadium, thus the potential exists to reach a grander stage than what the Captal One and Gator have to offer. Except...

Can the Fiesta or Cotton truly thrive in non-championship years without a strong B-12 or B-10 representative? I don't know, and that's where I feel another Florida bowl might prove a better regular draw for the likes of BE, ACC and any non-BCS schools. Capital One gets the nod here (preferably with the Citrus name restored), while the B-10, ACC and SEC revisit new formats for the Tangerine Bowl. Look for one of them and/or the B-12 to show interest in the Liberty Bowl as the back-up.

5. How many times in the first cycle will a team not currently in the BCS get a bid?
By cycle do you mean 5 years? I'd say 2-3 non-BCS schools will feature in a BCS bowl during the first 5 years of the new format.

6. Will the new BE be able to keep its bid, or will the "BE rule" finally catch up with them?
Yes, they will keep their bid.

Make your best guesses on these, and/or add your own. I just wish that I had started this thread three years ago.

Enjoy,

FBfan

1. I believe Conference USA will be the next conference to add a team.
2. Very hard to tell. Could be WAC or Sunbelt. (Recent note: the MAC is also a possibility to lose a team or two)
3. North Texas will be the team to move, despite SMU's continued objections. UNT is getting some good looks from CUSA. (noticed an interesting rumor on the CUSA thread concerning the MAC. MAC is looking to lose two, and might pursue two SBC teams. I do not know who these two MAC teams are though)Will a team move up or down? Possibly, but BCS teams are making accomodations to keep some shaky IA members IA. (see Arkansas with UL-Monroe)
4. I'll go with the Capital One Bowl, formerly known as the Citrus Bowl to take that fifth slot.
5. Depends on how long your cycles are. Assuming they are five years long, I'd say about 3 times.
6. I seriously believe the BE rule will eventually catch up with the BE. However, it depends on how long the BCS decides to keep the BE rule (i.e. does it extend it beyond 2010?). The way things are set up right now, it isn't too hard for the BE qualify simply because they can count Miami's BCS years towards qualification. Pounder, interesting idea about creating a SUNY flagship to add to the BE. And I loved your Pac 10 additions. ;D

This would have been interesting 3 or even 1 year ago.
I figured Miami, BC, SU to the ACC eventually. The question was when? It happened quicker than I thought (and with a Virginia political twist). One thing we almost all missed on was that we thought the BE would split.

1. Next conference-CUSA
2. Next to lose-WAC
3. Team to move-Louisiana Tech to CUSA (those MAC teams to CUSA rumours are getting stronger-but I think geography wins this time)
4. Next BCS bowl-Orlando. I think the ABC ties and Dallas' inability to get its act together give Orlando the edge. I think it will be a 3 way race in the end between Orlando, Dallas and Houston.
5. 3 non-BCS teams make the series. If I am wrong on #6, 4 will make it.
6. The BE rule catches up to the BE quickly IMO. The only question in my mind is whether the BCS acts on it or lets them stay through the end of the cycle. I think the odds are that they do act on it, especially if the BE is making it easier for the non-automatic conferences to get teams in. So by 2010, the BE no longer has an automatic spot.
7. Alright, I realize there was no #7. This is for your wildcard predication. Colorado will accept an invitation to the Pac 10 by 2010.

Bullett, would like to see your prediction run it's course.
- Would the PAC 10 take someone else with CU? If so, who?
- Should that happen, whither the Big 12? Already weary of their conferences pull, would Texas and A&M course some other major shake up or simply look to cut more dead weight from the conference?
- If the PAC 10 went to 12, would the Big 10?
- Lastly, even if the PAC 12 comes along and the Big 12 and Big 10 stayed pat, would there be more pressure on the BE to grow in fb?

The University of British Columbia has a beautiful campus. However, their stadium leaves something to be desired.

I think the Big 10 will do whatever it does independently of anyone else. However, I think the Big 10 going to 12 (especially with ND), would push the Pac 10 to expand.

I think the Pac 10 would love to have Texas. I think Texas stays in the Big 12 unless both CU and Missouri leave. Then I think Texas goes to the Pac 10 or goes to the SEC with Texas A&M, OU and one other school. The Big 12 has been beneficial to UT and A&M. And the Big 12 now dominates Texas recruiting. Top players still go out of state, but to the Big 12. The SEC, Big 10 and Pac 10 schools hardly got anyone this year (except for Arizona which had OU's Stoops as coach and previously had ex-Texas coach Mackovic and neighboring + national champ LSU).

Pounder mentioned something I had read on the internet, but don't remember seeing an actual article. According to this story, CU wanted to join the Pac 10 but Texas did not. The Pac 10 voted 9-1 to consider Utah with USC voting no. The vote had to be unanimous, so then the Pac 10 told CU, thanks, but no thanks.

So I think the Pac 10 will probably add Utah if they first add CU. I don't think anyone else (other than Texas, of course) would be considered. Hawaii might have some benefits and come close to fitting the academic profile, but I don't think the Pac 10 presidents would be willing to add that much to athlete travel time.

Bullet -

Interesting predictions. With the breakup of the Big12, does the Big12 go its separate ways with some trying to goto the Big10 (Mizzou) or would the Big12 seek new conference members from the WAC and WMC.

Would 16 teams in the SEC be too many?

If the SEC goes to 16 teams, would the ACC seek to further expand also? There wouldn't be anyteams IMO that could add 10 mill for each team or new markets other than ND.

I don't really expect anyone but CU to leave the Big 12, so I don't think it breaks up.

However, should the scenario with UT, A&M, OU and one other (Missouri/OSU/Tech) going to the SEC happen, the rest of the Big 12 stays together as Nebraska and KSU have noplace to go and form a solid foundation. The remaining 6 or 7 schools rebuild from the MWC, CUSA and possibly the MAC. One of many possibilities-UNL, KSU, KU, ISU,Memphis, No. Illinois/Tech, Baylor, TCU, UH, CSU, BYU.

I don't think there are too many schools that can make the finances of going beyond 12 work. At MOST, maybe a dozen and only about half of them have even a remote possibility of changing conferences (FL schools, TX schools, ND). However, the combination of Texas, Texas A&M and OU coupled with the impact on the market value of the Big 12 (dropping the Big 5 conferences to the Big 4) could make it worthwhile to the SEC, or at least make it close to breakeven. If the SEC did go to 16, I don't see any other major conferences following the lead.

Most of the speculation of the SEC going beyond 12 has involved FL schools, but I don't see how the divisions work if they add anyone in the east and I don't see how they work if they only go to 14. AL and Auburn need to play schools like UGA, TN and FL more than once every 4 or 5 years. So an SEC expansion would have to be to 16 and would have to be to the west. Ole Miss wouldn't like it, but they didn't like losing TN as their every year "rival" (to Arkansas of all teams) and didn't like losing UGA either. The MS schools obviously don't have a lot of clout and wouldn't have much of a choice. LSU might not mind joining the Big 12 schools in a new SEC west and Arkansas certainly wouldn't mind.

1. CUSA
2. WAC
3. LaTech to CUSA. It's pretty much a given.
4. Cotton. I disapprove of them hosting the championship though. Stick to the four-year rotation.
5. One per year. So what TCU lost to Southern Miss. The Frogs got jobbed.
6. The Cotton Bowl is the Big East's white knight.

I still would like to see a playoff in my lifetime (I'm 24). You don't hear Gonzaga complaining about not having a shot at the men's basketball championship.

I found this in a news group and decided to try it. A little while back,
I was browsing through news groups, just like you are now and came
across a message just like this, that said you could make thousands of
dollars within weeks with only an initial investment of $6.00!!!

So I thought yeah right, this must be a scam!!! But like most of us, I
was curious, so I kept reading. Anyway, it said that you send $1.00 to
each of the 6 names and addresses stated in the message. You then place
your own name and address at the bottom of the list at #6 and post the
message in at least 200 news groups. (There are thousands). No catch,
that was it.

So after thinking it over, and talking to a few people first. I thought
about trying it. I figured, what have I got to lose except 6 stamps and
$6.00, right? So I invested the measly $6.00!!! Guess what? Within 7
days I started getting money in the mail!!! I was shocked!!! I figured
it would end soon, but the money just kept coming in!!! In my first
week, I had made about $25.00. By the end of the second week, I had made
a total of over $1,000.00!!! In the third week, I had over $10,000.00
and it is still growing!!! This is now my fourth week and I have made a
total of just over $42,000.00 and it is still coming in rapidly!!! It's
certanly worth $6.00 and 6 stamps!!! I have spent more than that on the
lottery!!!

Let me tell you how this works and most importantly, why it works!!!
Also, make sure you
print a copy of this message now. So you can get the information off of
it as you need it. I promise you that if you follow the directions
exactly, that you will start making more money than you thought possible
by doing something so easy!!!

Suggestion: Read this entire message carefully!!! (Print it out or
download it.) Follow the simple directions and watch the money come
in!!! It's easy!!! It's legal!!! Your investment is only $6.00 (plus
postage).

IMPORTANT: This is not a rip-off!!! It is not
illegal!!! ? It is almost entirely risk free and it really works!!! If
all of the following instructions are adhered to, you will recieve
extraordinary dividends!!!

Please note: Follow these directions EXACTLY, and $60,000.00 or more can
be yours in 20 to 90 days!!! This program remains successful because of
the honesty and the integrity of the participants!!! Please continue its
success by carefully adhering to the instructions.

You will now become part of the mail order business. In this business
your product is not solid or tangible, it is a service. You are in the
business of developing mailing lists. Many large corporations are happy
to pay big bucks for
quality lists. However, the money made from a mailing list is secondary
to the income which is made from people like you and me asking to be
included on your mailing list!!!

Here are the 4 easy steps to success:

Step 1: Get 6 seperate pieces of paper and write the following on each
piece of paper.

PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST

and

(your name and address)

Now get 6 U.S. dollar bills and place ONE inside each of the 6 pieces of
paper so the bills will not be seen through the envelopes (to prevent
mail theft). Next, place one paper in each of the 6 envelopes and seal
them, you should now have 6 sealed envelopes. Each with a piece of paper
stating the above phrase, your name and address, and a $1.00 bill.
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL!!! YOU ARE REQUESTING A LEGITIMATE SERVICE AND
YOU ARE PAYING FOR IT!!!

Like most of us, I was a little skeptical and a little worried about the
legal aspect of it all. So I checked it out with the U.S. Postal Service
and they confirmed that it is indeed legal!!!

Mail the 6 envelopes to the following addresses:

A.M.R.
23645 Cora
Brownstown, MI. USA 48183

K. Costello
20812 135 Ave SE
Kent, WA 98042 USA

B. Brown
1208 Steeple Ridge Ct
McKinney, Tx 75069 USA

M. Lussier
3112 133A Ave NW
Edmonton, AB
T5A 2Z8

Mourgo
27 Major Mackenzie Dr.
Suite 201
Richmond Hill, ON
L4C 1G7 CANADA

B. Miller
13782 W. Warren Dr.
Lakewood, CO 80228 USA

Step 2: Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move the
other names up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, etc.) and add your name as
number 6 on the list.

Step 3: Change anything you need to, but try to keep this message as
close to what you see as possible. Now, post your amended message to at
least 200 news groups. I think there are close to 24,000 groups!!! All
you need is 200, but remember, the more you post, the more money you
make!!! This is perfectly legal!! If you have any doubts, refer to
Title18 sec. 1302 & 1341 of the postal lottery laws. Keep a copy of
these steps for yourself and whenever you need money, you can use it
again.

Please remember that this program remains successful because of the
honesty and the integrity of the participants and by their carefully
adhering to the directions!!!

Look at it this way. If you are of integrity, the program will continue
and the money that so many others have recieved will come your way!!!

Note: You may want to retain every name and address sent to you, either
on your computer or hard copy and keep the notes people send you. This
verifies that you are truely providing a service. Also, it might be a
good Idea to wrap the $1 bills in dark paper to reduce the risk of mail
theft.

So, as each post is downloaded and the directions carefully followed,
six members will be reimbursed for their participation as a list
developer with one dollar each. Your name will move up the list
geometrically so that when your name reaches the #1 position, you will
be receiving thousands of dollars in cash!!! What an opportunity for
only $6.00!!! ($1.00
for each of the first six people listed above).

Send it now, add your own name to the list and your in business!!!

REMEMBER, THE MORE NEWS GROUPS YOU POST IN, THE MORE MONEY YOU WILL
MAKE!!!! (But you have to post a minimum of 200).

Thats it!!! You will begin receiving money from around the world within
days!!! You may eventually want to rent a P.O. Box due to the large
amount of mail you will receive. If you
wish to stay anonymous, you can invent a name to use, as long as the
postman will deliver it.

JUST MAKE SURE ALL THE ADDRESSES ARE CORRECT!!!

Now the why part. Out of 200 postings, say you recieve only 5 replies (a
very low example). So then you made $5.00 with your name at #6 on the
letter. Now, each of the 5 persons who sent you $1.00 make the minimum
200 postings, each with your name at #5 and only 5 persons respond (still, a very low rate) to
each of the original 5, that is another $25.00 for you. Now those 25
each make 200 MINIMUM posts with your name at #4 and only 5 replies
each, you will bring in an additional $125.00!!!! Now, those 125 persons
turn around and post the minimum 200 with your name at #3 and only
recieve 5 replies each, you will make an additonal $625.00!!! OK, now
here is the fun part, each of those 625 persons post a minimum 200
messages with your name at #2 and they each only recieve 5 replies, that
just made you $3,125.00!!! Those 3,125 persons will all deliver this
message to 200 news groups, If just 5 more reply you will receive
$15,625.00!!! All with an original investment of only $6.00!!! Amazing
isn't it!!!! When your name is no longer on the list, you just take the
latest posting in the news groups and send out another $6.00 to the
names on the list, putting your name at number 6 again.

You must realize that thousands of people all over the world are joining
the internet and reading these messages every day!!! Just like you are
now!!! So, can you afford $6.00 and see if it really works? I'm glad I
did!!! People have said, "what if the plan is played out and no one
sends you the money?" So what!!! What are the chances of that happening,
when there are tons of new honest users and new honest people who are
joining the internet and news groups everyday and are willing to give it
a try? Estimates are at 20,000 to 50,000 new users, every day!!!

REMEMBER PLAY HONESTLY AND FAIRLY AND THIS WILL REALLY WORK!!!

Predictions:

CUSA will invite LaTech.
WAC will invite Idaho.

Expansion is done for several years. Then, maybe 5 years down the road, this is what happens:

PAC-10 expands inviting Utah and Colorado, and renames itself the Pacific Coast Conference.

Big10 expands to keep up with Pac10, inviting Notre Dame, who finally realizes after BCS changes that it must have a conference.

The Big12 expands by inviting Central Florida. After UCF had a few good years in CUSA, they became very inviting as a Florida member of the Big12.

MWC completes what it started by inviting Boise State, Nevada-Reno, Utah State and Fresno State. This moves them to 12 and compensates for losing Utah to the Pac10.

CUSA compensates for losing UCF by inviting Middle Tennessee State.

SunBelt is still ok even after losing Middle Tennessee State. They have added Western Kentucky with a 1-A football upgrade.

WAC needs 4 to replace losses to MWC. The four are all 1-AA upgrades: Montana, Northern Arizona, Eastern Washington and Sacramento State.

Here are your conferences circa 2010:

Pacific Coast Conference (formerly Pac10):
All current members plus Utah and Colorado. Splits into Northern-Southern divisions and has championship game for football in the Coliseum.

Big12: Same members minus Colorado plus UCF.

MWC: Minus Utah plus Boise State, Nevada-Reno, Utah State and Fresno State. Two divisions, with championship game.

CUSA: Less UCF plus Middle Tennessee State.

SunBelt: Some upgrades from1-aa less MTSt.

WAC: 4 upgrades from 1-aa.

Not mentioned: MAC doesn't lose any teams or need to expand. Big East is fine with its arrangement as well.
