Since the last "What-If-Trickle-down: MWC Expansion" thread was a hit, here's a new one.

I thought a fun idea would be to fiddle around with some "What if" scenarios.

So here's the hypothetical:
What if the BCS said, ALL FBS CONFERENCES NEED TO BE 12+ TEAMS (and the 3 indys need to align)?

BIG TEN: (1): Adds Notre Dame
PAC 10: (2): Adds Utah & BYU
SEC: none
ACC: none
BIG 12: none
BIG EAST: (4) Adds Memphis, UCF, Army, Navy
MAC: none
MWC: (5): Adds Boise St, Nevada, Fresno St., Utah St and Hawaii
CUSA: (2) Adds LA Tech, NMSU
SUNBELT: (4) Adds Idaho & SJSU and given waiver until next 2 schools upgrade
WAC: folds

Lets take that a step further. Lets say the gubmnet steps in and says all 120 FBS teams need to have an equal shot at playing in a BCS bowl and each conference needs to take home an equal share ---$17M. To that end, there needs to immediately be 10 conferences with 12 FBS playing members each.

With everyone sharing in the BCS revenue, there is no reason to reach beyond a footprint for marginally better programs and less of a reason to accept lesser programs to claim association with better academic schools. expansion motivations would shift quite a bit.

BIG TEN: (1): Adds Notre Dame
PAC 10: (2): Adds Colorado & CSU for Colorado markets.
SEC: none
ACC: none
BIG 12: passes over TCU with their large (for non-BCS) athletic budget since they already own DFW and adds Memphis for access to Tennessse, Mississippi and Arkansas TVs. (UT might prefer flagship UNM due to their research reputation, but might accept this as the 3 state region dwarfs what NM yeilds and the changes might be seen as shorter term = until UT can make it's own conference.)
BIG EAST: (4) Adds Temple, UCF, Army, Navy for TV.
MAC: none
MWC: (4): Adds Boise St, Nevada, UNT, & Fresno St. FS and UNT add media value.
CUSA: (2) Suprisingly adds WKU & MTU to ease eastern travel for UAB, S Miss, ECU, and Marshall and help in basketball.
SAC (Sunbelt Athletic Conference): WAC merges with remnants of sunbelt. With $17M per year, they can afford the travel.

BCS Bowls

Rose: Pac 12 v. Big Dozen
Sugar: SEC v. Big 12
Orange: BE v. ACC
Cotton: MWC v. CUSA
Liberty: MAC v. SAC
