Quinn, I am going to keep pushing you on this...Throw out some ideas.

Really, barring another school making the move to D-I, the WAC is probably the best place for Hawaii. Really, the main problem is Louisiana Tech, but if Conference USA gets raided, I see them joining up with Tulane or the Texas schools. Montana is a viable option to move up to the WAC (great facilities, winning tradition, etc.), and would probably end up being the next Boise State (also a former Big Sky team). The problem with that is that they would have to bring Montana State along, and I think even Bobcat faithful don't see that as a good step right now.

Finiteman, for me it's this simple:

Best place for Hawaii: WAC
Longshot: MWC - if Hawaii had a lot of success in football and basketball, and could make themselves a more attractive candidate than BSU, Fresno, Houston, Nevada and perhaps UTEP, then Hawaii could be a candidate.

That's about it.

I don't see the Pac-10 as a realistic home for Hawaii ever. I really think it would take some minor miracle like becoming a top 5 basketball or football program for a 5-10 year run. To put it bluntly, I think the Pac-10 will only invite Hawaii if it would be hurt by not inviting them. For this example, they'd need to be so good that the Pac-10 would invite them as a defensive move. Just don't see it happening.

Hawaii is not wanted by the MWC, let alone the Pac 10. Let them stay with the WAC with programs of their ilk.

I don't disagree with much of this at all. It would take a great deal of changes to make Hawaii a candidate the PAC 10 would consider, but as I said previously, I am seeking ideas from you guys that I hope we can discuss through this thread.

I agree that you have addressed the current status quo with the MWC quite accurately. Regionally, I agree that Hawaii is in one of the better conferences for their needs, but I don't feel very comfortable with Hawaii long term in the WAC, because honestly, I don't know how stable the WAC is long term. So what can Hawaii do to improve the stability of their situation and future outlook? It's not an easy question that can be answered by a run down of their current options. I want to know how they can best leverage their positives into a good, stable position that allows them to move towards a position that allows good future growth.
