If you had to create a 12th conference for division 1-A football what teams would you put in it?

I would probably try to create a new conference in the northeast for teams like Army, Navy, Marshall, ECU, Temple, Buffalo, Delaware, U Mass, Western Kentucky, and Middle Tennessee.

I'd bust up the CAA and Atlantic 10, and reassemble them in to conferences that make more sense:

CAA (FBS):
South
Georgia State
Georgia Southern (from Southern)
Charlotte (from Atlantic 10)
Appalachian State (from Southern)
Old Dominion
James Madison

North
Temple (from MAC football/Atlantic 10)
Towson
Delaware
Stony Brook (from Big South football/America East)
Massachusetts (from Atlantic 10)
Hofstra (non-football)

UNC-Wilmington and William & Mary move to the Southern Conference. Northeastern would move to the America East Conference. Drexel, George Mason, and VCU move to the Atlantic 10 (11 of the 14 Atlantic 10 schools would be private-Rhode Island, George Mason, and VCU would be the exceptions).

Once a 12th school emerges as an FBS candidate far enough down the road to clear the continuity requirements, that school would replace Hofstra.

We all dismiss it, but the best thing for football in the northeast would be for all the FBS programs to be together to build rivalries. Instead, we're a year or two away from having all the FBS programs in such a small area, in 3-5 different conferences.

What should be?

BC, *UMass, Uconn, Syracuse, Buffalo, Rutgers
Temple, *Delaware, Pitt, WVU, Marshall, ECU

Instead, we could have the current 10 FBS schools in the ACC, Big Ten, MAC, CUSA
