Post subject:  How to build a Super Conference from scratch

Take the top 60 teams on SB Nation's list...
http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/2012/5/21/3027054/college-football-conference-realignment-teams-schools

Add the best school in the states in top 40 of the population list...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Population_by_state

UNLV (Nevada, pop #35)
New Mexico (New Mexico, pop #36)
Boise St (Idaho, pop #39)
Hawaii (Hawaii, pop #40)

And your done! Why can't it be that easy.

Only fb schools in the Big 6+Independents that get cut are:
Independents (1) Army
ACC (1) Wake Forest
SEC (1) Mississippi St
PAC12 (2) Washington St and Oregon St
Big12 (2) Iowa St and Kansas St
Big East (10) SDSU, SMU, Houston, Memphis, Louisville, Cincinnati, Temple, Navy, USF, UCF

We all knew North Carolina has too many teams, and Mississippi had two bad teams so now hopefully they can make 1 good one. Iowa St, who's been bad forever, gets dumped, and surprisingly so does K St. Washington St and Oregon St get left behind, but their loss is cushioned by Boise St's inclusion which helps the TV contract. The Big East's CUSA upgrades old and new are out, as well as Army and Navy.

New Realignments:

West (South) Hawaii, USC, UCLA, UNLV, AZ, ASU, UNM, Texas Tech (8)
West (North) Stan, Cal, UW, UO, BSU, BYU, Utah, Colorado (8)

North (West) Kansas, Mizzou, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, ???? (7)
North (East) NW, Indiana, Purdue, ND, Mich, MSU, tOSU, UK (8)

East (North) UConn, Boston College, Rutgers, Syracuse, Penn St, Pitt, WVU, ???? (7)
East (South) Maryland, Virginia, VPI, UNC, NC St, Duke, USC, Clem (8)

South (East) Miami, UF, FSU, UGA, GT, Aub, AL, Tenn, Vandy (9)
South (West) Texas, TCU, Baylor, A&M, OU, Okie St, Arkansas, LSU, Ole Miss (9)

This can work, Texas Tech won't be too happy and neither will Kentucky (2 out of 64 ain't bad), but their are 2 problems that can't be logically fixed. There just aren't enough schools in the North and East to fill a conference so we'll have to make a few small edits.

Drop Baylor, private school in small market Waco that hasn't had much success (besides this year) and Texas already has 4 other teams, and add Temple who has a nice pro stadium in a major market, and Penn is big enough for 3 elite college teams.

Also drop Vandy, while a tougher decision it still brings less to the table than the other schools in the South, and add K St while yes they are in a smaller market than have national titles and are relevant in both major sports.

Final Alignments (until they expand)

West (South) Hawaii, USC, UCLA, UNLV, AZ, ASU, UNM, Texas Tech (8)
West (North) Stan, Cal, UW, UO, BSU, BYU, Utah, Colorado (8)

North (West) Kansas, K St, Mizzou, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois (8)
North (East) NW, Indiana, Purdue, ND, Mich, MSU, tOSU, UK (8)

East (North) UConn, Boston College, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, Penn St, Pitt, WVU (8)
East (South) Maryland, Virginia, VPI, UNC, NC St, Duke, USC, Clem (8)

South (East) Miami, UF, FSU, UGA, GT, Aub, AL, Tenn (8)
South (West) Texas, TCU, A&M, OU, Okie St, Arkansas, LSU, Ole Miss (8)

I would also make all schools start LAX (ESPN loves it so imagine if there was a nation tourney with Texas, USC, UF, ect...), baseball/softball, and men's soccer as entry into this new super conference.
