If there is realignment but no playoff, what will happen to a few bowls?

Will the Silicon Valley, Humanitarian and Hawaii bowl follow Fresno St, Boise St and Hawaii if they move from the WAC to the MWC?

Why in hell do SBC fans honeslyt believe NMSU deserves a bowl and will actually get one? NMSU's record is inflated with 5 in conference wins versus the SBC which is a weaker conference that some of the top 1-AA conference.

Will the NO Bowl switch conference alignment if the SBC goes belly up or is dropped to 1-AA or will the Bowl fold?

humanitarian followed boise st. from the big west to the wac, but i don't think the wac could let all 3 bowls go.

the hawaii bowl is property of the university. they need 8 or 9 home games plus that bowl every year to cover travel costs -- the stadium seats only about 30,000. so wherever hawaii goes, the hawaii bowl goes, and as long as hawaii qualifies, they are in.

seems to me that the wac and mwc could trade off bowls, with san francisco going to the wac instead in exchange for hawaii. silicon would stay because san jose state remains in the wac and is the "home team". and the wac would lose humanitarian outright and have to make a deal for a 3rd team if they could qualify that many. comes with the territory -- if the wac expands to 12 teams, they get extra bowl slots.

what happens to the new orleans bowl will depend on whether it is economically viable. if the sbc folds, the ncaa may just allow it to go away. 2/3 of the bowls are minimum payout (750k), and half the schools who go to them fail to cover costs. travel, plus the other conference members get a huge chunk of the proceeds.

if sbc and mac teams can't draw 15,000 fans at home what makes the ncaa think they can get 15,000 people to travel to mobile or new orleans?

Seems like the SBC teams could draw much better if the membership wasn't so scattered. I don't see why The WAC and the SBC don't work out soe sort of switch. Seems liek both conferences would benefit. Attendance would probably increase, and costs would certainly decrease.

If Boise State would bring it's bowl, the MWC is foolish not to land them.

sbc teams need some home games is what they need. and some history. the conference is just what it is: a bunch of castoffs and new-to-1-a teams. teams that have to play 4-5 away games against the sec and big xii just to break even. regionalizing it will help a little. adding a team or two will help a little more. but when you've got a middle tennessee-utah state, or idaho-sw louisiana matchup as your marquee, you're in trouble.

Well said. There's nothing quite like the electricity in the fall air when the Vandals roll in to face the Rajun Cajuns (that is SW Louisiana right?). zzz

even worse is the ragin cajuns going to moscow, idaho to play the vandals. have you seen the inside of their stadium, the kibbie dome? it looks like a high school gym. the goal posts are actually suspended from the ceiling, not planted in the floor (on the other hand, this would potentially save the university money should idaho ever beat anyone of note and the students -- all 8,800 of them -- pour onto the field to, um, tear down the goalposts). enjoy the pics.

Classic. I'm definitely using the Kibbie Dome in a joke at some point next season. Thanks for the material.

My God why does anyone show up there?
