GUNNERFAN,

That's a good idea--a maximum limit rather than a minimum one. Actually, if they had both rules in effect, you might have a situation where a big school would have to go to a smaller place to fill both schools' requirements.

It doesn't look like the 12-game season is going away, so 7 max and 5 min would be fine (Arkansas had 8 home games last year).

Resurrected an old thread that was appropriate now that the season is underway...

SanJoseSt. drew almost 32,000 for their game with Grambling yesterday. They had been on the attendance bubble.
The bulk of the fans probably came for the famed Grambling band...local reports even said the SJS players and coaches stayed on the field after the game to watch the postgame show!
This type of scheduling shows a committment to meeting the 1A standard. SJS still only has 4 home games against 1A opponents (WAC contests), but they are on their way to qualifying into 1A standards with this kind of start...
Let's see how they do next week in their "body bag" game against UFla.

San Jose St might make it. ULM will not.

Being pragmatic, there needs to be better classifications and criteria for schools moving up and down in status. The 1-A and 1-AA classifications need particularly further revised. For a school to move down to a more realistic status, it should not be seen as a failure and financially unwise. Conferences neither should be viewed as permanent, but stability is certainly valued. Over a decade or so, some new ones emerge that should move up, and some need to face reality and step back.

Move them all up to 1-A and make the rest D-2 getting rid of 1-A, 1-AA and 1-AAA sounds like a high school classification

It appears that after the first week games that

OHIO

was the only team not to make 15K in their home attendance opener. They had just over 10K for a D-1AA matchup. Even E.Michigan got 15K for opener.

Anybody see any issues yet with this? Is it worth tracking for the year?

It goes back to the point footballgod made. Enrollment is very important part of realignment in college also along with a large fan base too.

Actually, EMU was also sub-15k with an attendance of 11,725.

Essency/Joedadi,

Thanks for setting me straight! :o
I was looking at Bowling Green vs. EASTERN Ky.
Confused on my Easterns!.

Bowling Green had 15K.

Not a good start for the MAC, though.

Actually, for the MAC, it was a good weekend. The remaining four schools that played at home brought in 23-28k. Both NIU and BSU broke their attendance record.

Eastern Michigan probably won't make it. They lost at home to Div 1-AA Western Illinois 34-12 ;D. No body will want to go to their games now.

The EMU football program is in some real trouble. Glad I'm not their head coach or AD. Hope things work out.

Eastern Michigan is just a few miles down the road from the Univ. of Michigan---go figure!
