It has been rumored that D2 UNA is looking to move up to D1. We tried to move up around 1995-1996, but the College President wouldnt allow it....now it has come back up. Do any of you have any info on this, or can you find out how serious UNA is about moving up. If we do move up, what conference do you see us joining.....im hoping for the Ohio Valley.

Rumor holds that the Atlantic Sun will be the conference you guys go to, allong with Kennesaw St and UA-Huntsville.

but the A-Sun doesnt have a football league do they? Will we play football in another conference and play all other sports in the A-sun?

The Atlantic Sun Conference does not sponsor football. If North Alabama wants to move up to Division I-AA, it would probably be best off trying for the Ohio Valley Conference ... the Southern Conference ... and the Big South Conference ... in that order. Alabama-Huntsville and Kennesaw State would probably be fine in the Atlantic Sun since neither school has a football team.

The OVC might be waiting to see if Tennessee State will ultimately decide to stay or rejoin the SWAC before it approaches expansion again. The OVC is currently at 11 schools overall. A departure by Tennessee State would put membership at an even 10 schools.

The SoCon is considering expansion to replace recently booted East Tennessee. A football playing school seems to be their preference. Adding an Alabama school would stretch the league westward, though.

The Big South only has five football-playing members ... and a conference needs six to even be considered for an automatic bid by the NCAA. Non-football school Birmingham Southern is already in this league.

The Colonial Athletic Association seems to be in a holding pattern waiting on Northeastern to accept the 12th spot. If North Alabama acted as quickly as ... today ... maybe they could snap up that spot. Not likely to happen like that, however. In addition, the CAA probably doesn't want to stretch from New York to Alabama. Boston to Atlanta is as much of a stretch as they will stand for. LOL.

Tennessee State was never a member of the SWAC...they were however a member of one or both of the two D-II HBCU conferences (CIAA/SIAA)...

Id love to see UNA join the OVC. While our Baseball and Basketball isnt up to D1 standards.....our football team belongs in D1. I cant believe we didnt move up when we won 3 straight D2 National Titles(93,94,95). Sources at UNA said we have to generate 3-4 million more dollars a year to make the jump........UNA is in the process of raising tuition, so hopefully we will be able to join you guys in D1!

Well you get the drift anyway. There has been a huge question at Tennessee State and among its alumni over whether the school would be better off staying in the OVC or being in a conference with other Historically Black Colleges & Universities where the rivalries would be more "traditional" and may generate more fanbase interest.

UNA is going through changes right now they are fixing to extend its campus to west side of florence chances are they just might add a new football stadium there since they annexed the land. Second they have recently raised titution 10 percent Third they have added alot of new dorms. So inclusion according to a board of trustee there has been talk they just might make a move to D-1AA in the next 3 years so be on the lookout.
