Since almost all the conferences seem to be lining up to realign (does that make any sense?), the MAC probably gets affected too. It seems like every non-BCS conference gets involved with the fallout from the ACC raid on the BigEast....except maybe the MWC.
Fallout Effects:
========================================
1. BigEast splits into an all-sports conference (EastCoastConference) and a non-FB conference (BigEast).
2. The BigEast (BB) adds teams from the A-10 (any of: Xavier, Dayton, St.Joseph's, Fordham, LaSalle, Duquense, St.Bonaventure) and C-USA (any of: DePaul, Marquette, St.Louis) . This does not effect the MAC directly.
2a. C-USA does not move to replace lost non-FB schools. This does not effect the MAC either.
2b. A-10 (which could lose up to 7 teams - but probably just 3 - Xavier, Dayton and St. Joseph's) rebuilds by adding Charlotte (C-USA's other non-FB school) and potentially MAC schools that have to drop football to I-AA (potentially: EasternMich, KentSt, Akron, Buffalo - most likely just KentSt is attractive enough - if available at all - though Akron and Buffalo would fit nicely geographically).
3. ECC (VaTech, WestVirginia, Pitt, UConn, Rutgers, Temple) add 3 C-USA schools (Louisville, Cincinnati and ECU) and 1 MAC school (Marshall). They stand pat at 10 teams - and are NOT BCS.
4. Remaining C-USA schools (TCU, Houston, SoMiss, Tulane, Memphis, USF, Army) then adds 4 WAC-east schools (Tulsa, Rice, SMU and La-Tech) and 1 MAC schools (UCF) to get to 12 teams. May lose the interest of Army and may lose UAB and/or Tulane to other issues. They could end up with anything between 9-12 teams, depending on those other issues. This is NOT BCS. They may also take several SBC-east schools (La-Laf, ArkSt, TroySt, La-Mon or MTSU) to replace Tulane, UAB or Army (if necessary).
5. WAC-west (Hawaii, FresnoSt, SJSU, BoiseSt, Nevada, UTEP) raid the western SBC (Idaho, NMSU, UtahSt and UNT) for 2-4 additional teams. This eliminates the SBC - even if a few teams are left over.
========================================
The MAC:
- lost Marshall to ECC
- lost UCF to the more southern C-USA
- may lose EasternMich, KentSt, Akron and Buffalo to I-AA (and then KentSt and/or Buffalo might join the A-10, EasternMich and/or Akron may join the Horizon or Mid-Cont)
That leaves 8 MAC schools:
NoILL, BallSt, WesternMich, CentralMich, Toledo, BGSU, Miami(OH), Ohio.
This is not many teams, but more importantly, it is financially sensible: geographically small, resistant to re-alignment (no where else for teams to go), and contains only one schools with attendence issues (BallSt). They may add MTSU if C-USA doesn't. They could also add Army and Navy - if they someday desire a FB home.
I like the academies better with the NE schools you mentioned - would be a great 12 team conference - Arkansan
