Are any of you going to miss the old Busch Stadium?

I'm not sure. Why's that?

Isn't it at least a bit like the saucers (Vet, Three Rivers, Fulton County, Riverfront, etc.) that landed in the late 60s and early 70s? I certainly won't miss that architecture.

The Cardinals were at least reputable for keeping Busch clean. I'm sure that's a trait they'll maintain at the new park.

The question, since the new park is a rare bird indeed- one for which I haven't seen any architectural renderings- is whether it will look cookie-cutter in the more recent sense. People are apparently underwhelmed by Great America in Cincinnati and the Philly park, while San Diego has some semblance of originality (which looks to be copied a bit by the design just proposed for a new Oakland park).

New ballpark order:

Washington - 2008
New York (Both teams) - 2009
Florida - 2010
Minnesota - 2010
Oakland - 2010

I think the New York stadia are the only ones with anything approaching firm dates.

Washington still has a lot of issues to grind through with land acquisition, dodgy Supreme Court decisions on eminent domain notwithstanding.

NOTHING is set in Florida, Minnesota, or Oakland. They're trying, Florida has a $60 million funding gap to cover, which the state refuses to do. Minnesota is hoping the legislature goes into special session in the fall to allow Hennepin County to tack onto their current sales tax. Oakland is back at the proposal stage without any hint of where the funding comes from.

While I'd like to just copy the links to a San Francisco Weekly article on the proposed Oakland ballpark, I have to keep this simple... so I'll just link to the Oregon Stadium Campaign website.

This is more an "architectural review" of the concept than anything... and remember, no funds yet.
