Mark my words if Central Fl gets BE membership and South Fl which already has BE membership, they will be breathing down the big 3 neck in Florida in a few years. Hey South Florida was in the running for a BCS game this year and Florida State is really lucky to be there. Miami and Florida are not in the BCS. Is the tide changing on the beaches of Florida. who knows!

I dont think that is going to happen, maybe knock Miami off but not Florida or Florida State.

Sportskc, actually Miami has been the better performer over the years. Its just a much more cool place to play football and south Florida has really good high school players.

Only during the probation period has Miami falling on the hard time Florida State has this year. Florida State is lucky to be in the top 25.

Florida only became a major power in the SEC in the 80s.

If Florida and Florida State can rise to the level they have since the 80s, there is no reason that South Florida and Central Florida can't do the same. South Florida plays rent free in arguably one of the best stadiums in the state of Florida.

Approximate historical winning percentages of Florida's "Big 3"

Florida--.598
Florida State--.667
Miami--.629

Howard Schnellenberger's predecessor, Lou Saban (granted) left "The U" to coach at West Point...

George MacIntyre chose Vanderbilt over his alma mater (1979)...

Fran Curci left for Kentucky (1973)...

Seeing as how the basketball program had been discontinued (1970) citing poor attendance and lack of an on-campus facility, termination of the football program did not seem that far-fetched when Schnellenberger arrived (1979), and the rest is history...

SportsKC,
I somewhat like Marshall's prospects, and I feel they would provide a great rivalry with WVU. However, they will not come due to WVU, and the Huntington area is a small marketplace.

Charleston is closer to Huntington than it is to Morgantown, easily. Charleston is the big market in West Virginia. Marshall has that in its favor.

However, Marshall has lost its stability (including in terms of attendance) after the first few years when it benefitted from good players who transferred there while they were still 1-AA. Basketball isn't much. I can see where they're going to have trouble comparing to other BE candidates. They certainly aren't on the ACC radar (thought someone ought to bring this back on topic).

Pounder,

I live in between Chas. and Huntington. Charleston is more WVU than Marshall. Charleston Area Medical Center, a major hospitial in the state, has a WVU presence at there hospital. Also, there are lots of WVU alumni in the area.

I think the race for the #12 all-sports membership seems to be who gets their programs up - football for Temple, hoops for Marshall. That is just an outsiders view.

#12 ?

Who do you have pegged for # 9, 10, 11 ?

Memphis ? UCF ? East Carolina ?

Well maybe one or more of those are correct, but I wouldn't bet the farm just yet....

I kinda suspect #9 - 12 are all subject to whose program is doing well at the time BE expansion is considered.

SportKC, its because BE football schools are dominating the ACC. The old ACC is lost in the shuffle or expansion shuffle. Its hard to think about the ACC with out thinking about the Big East with Miami, Va Tech, and BC all at the top of the ACC. The ACC just looks like the Big East. Too bad Big East name is already taken or the ACC could just have adopted the name.

Lash's final big four BCS Florida school rankings.

1.Miami Hurricanes.
2 Florida Gators.
3 South Florida Bulls
4 Florida State Seminoles

No way that a team with USF's deplorable passing attack could beat Florida St. They couldn't even beat Connecticut.

I'm sure that Lash was pleased to read SI's appraisal of the ACC as the toughest conference this year.

Looks like Lash has a case of sour grapes.

If the BE couldn't hold on to their best FB schools that's the BE's (I mean Big Least's ;D)fault.

GO NOLES

One thing for certain SeminoleSandy, the big least of the 8 BCS members is your FSU Noles. Speaking of "sour grapes" FSU is a really sour note for the BCS this year. FSU is no different than Pitt being a BCS school last year. So I am objective in my views of teams that should be allowed to participate in the BCS.

Westwolf, why do you think UConn could not beat FSU this year?

As usual many of my post point to Va Tech which earned their old Big East nickname the "Chokies".

In the old Big East Va Tech would have a couple of the sloppy BE games an allow Miami the true star of both leagues gain a BCS slot. With the flaws of 12 team alignments like the new ACC, we are stuck with the dud of FSU in the Orange Bowl.

Friends and I love to psersonanate the ESPN guys and can predict there very moves when discussing the BCS. When it came down to the best BCS bowls this year, of course a good bowl choice is the Texas/USC match up so no reason to pick this one wrong unless you are a idiot. Then the ESPN guys pick the Fiesta Bowl. OK being from Phoenix have to like the hype, however, Notre Dame and Ohio State are really big name hype machines in name only. Then we have ESPN pumping up that can't wait for FSU/Penn State match up. If the two grand coaches were going to go at it on the field at half time, then it may get my vote. Penn State should win this one in land slide.

Of course no metion of Georgia/WVU. If Wake would have replaced WVU, then the ESPN guys would have been all over it. The reason for easy prediction is ESPN ability to degrade the BE to keep contract cost down for football. ESPN does not want to drop BE just keep cost low for payouts.

Back to BCS conferences. If the ACC could some how find a way to expel Wake and Duke and replace with BE Louisville and WVU, then the ACC may be on par with a real football league like the SEC.

With WVU and Lousiville out of the mix, the BE will just be back in a few years to drive ESPN and ACC cracy.

Lash why you not like 12 now? More menz out there bending over hiking the ball. See your point spin into pro Big East.
Me like Brady Quinn. He should gotten Heisman not that Reggie Bush, and less votes for Linert, or Vince Young.
Tigersharktwo/BE NotreDame dont you think Notre Dame's Quinn should got the Heisman or his receiver Sarjor/something another?
I see Villanova missed 1-aa playoffs but they busy upgrading for Big East.
Lashette is studying mountain west and will do a plan. I don't like gramps bowl either Lash. UConn would make better than FSu.
Lash what you think of Buffalo joining the Big East? Good AAU school. Could as GunnerOffline his thoughts.
Why aint Metropolitan talking Big East anymore. He find someone to argue with him about North Dakota? Some fumble with Tigersharktwo predictions.
What they smiting going on still. Tigershark you bad boy. You need a session in Lashette's dungeon of dreams. Lashette will do dominatrix for you and you can moan Villanova during the hot wax session and Notre Dame during piercing.
South Florida will clobber NC State at CARCar,Rutgers will slice up Arizona State at Insight,Louisville will crush VA tech in Gator, WVU will make Georgia giveup football, and Notre Dame will roast buckeyes. Navy will sink CSU in Diego. Smart list of Big EAst bowls don't you think?
