The last thing the SEC needs is more football power. Isn't the reason that FSU picked the ACC over the SEC due to the stength of the SEC football.

Sometimes you have say too much of a good thing is not necessarily good.

To some extent, Lash. However, I believe the real reason F$U picked the ACC over the SEC is that the ACC had no conference championship game while the SEC did. Bobby Bowden didn't want the extra "hassle" of a conference championship game, IMO. ::)

look for the sec to go after 2 teams which 2 is anyones guess. then look for the Big 12 to go after 2 more.

If the SEC and Big 12 start adding new schools. That will mean that the money that is divided up will be done in 14 shares and not 12. That means that the existing schools will be losing money rather then adding it. Sorry, can't see that happen.

If the ACC expands to 14 instead of 12, that is to get the vote through and won't hurt the shares with the added revenue that Miami, Boston College, Syracuse, TV Contract and Football Championship. The SEC and Big 12 already have the TV Contracts and Championship Game. The ACC will add revenue in adding schools, the SEC and Big 12 will lose revenue due to shares.

But I do see Big 10, Pac 10 and C-USA adding schools to go to 12. The MWC, WAC and Sunbelt will be mixing and matching and maybe merging alittle. Just depends on the way the dominoes fall.

The SEC could consider expansion to fourteen, especially if they feel that inaction now could cost them in the future. Yes, they are the kingpins of college football now, but as other conferences get stronger the value of their product goes down.

Adding members means cutting the pie 14 ways instead of 12. But they can approach their partners about renegotiations, even if in a modest sense for now until time for a new contract. Or they could invite members into the conference and then arrange seperate broadcast contracts for those schools as affiliates of the conference until the new contracts are done. For example, SEC adds WVU and East Carolina. CBS and SEC affiliates sign contracts with those schools to show their home games locally, promoting them as SEC members.

This may not happen, but the value of the SEC's package is relative in comparison to the rest of the NCAA. Historically the SEC's third best team is better than many conference champions. this could change drastically as other conferences grow. Start losing out on bowl bids, NCAA tournament berths and championships, and lose not only direct payouts but your product becomes harder to market.

OK, but WVU and East Carolina does not breing anything to the broad for CBS except maybe the Raleigh Market. Wouldn't be more productive to bring in TCU (Dallas-Fort Worth) and Missouri (St. Louis-Kansas City) for the TV Markets?

ECU and WVU were just examples I used. I'm sure the SEC would choose from among the best options out there. I do know that many WVU fans would enjoy the SEC and travel well.

I bet the SEC will stay as is, though, unless someone drops in their lap. By CUSA adding one more quality fb school and the MWC conference pursuing at least ten members, those conferences become thisclose to joining the BCS party. Because of that, the likes of WVU, TCU and Louisville would have less need for SEC envy. In the end, I see only Rice, SMU and/or Tulsa left asking for inclusion. The other teams that are left probably won't bring much to the table.

Don't see the Big 10 taking WVU. I'm guessing Pitt will lobby hard as the easy solution and by virtue of fitting the scholastic profile. I'm also guessing that ND would probably stay independent, especially if their other sports are happy in the new Big East and the other conferences sort themselves out. If they want a conference and move towards the Big 10, that conferences other target would be Missouri, 100%.

footballgod,

Not bad. I see where you're coming from. Do you ever consider moving charter members like Clemson or LSU, seeing as these are dream scenarios? For instance, in my favorite dream scenario of the moment, the ACC adds PSU, Louisville and Vandy and begins stoking even more rivalries with the BE and SEC. I've given up going all the way across the nation with these, though. SO many schools that will either drop off or move up when all this is said an done, and the geography/traditions become frustrating. My goal, though, would be to establish 8 or 12 12-member conferences for 1-A.

Stay tuned, though. Word from ATL is that the invitations to VT and UConn are for show; The schools are expected to decline but this gives UVA an out for approving the other three. Would be nice, though. I've already romanticized about this alignment on other boards.

The schools may not decline. VT & UConn both want to continue to be in the BCS, and if they have to take a short term PR hit, they'll take it. UConn has to worry about paying off that new stadium, and VT just wants to continue to be in the BCS. However, I do feel that the invitations to VT & UConn are a ploy to force UNC to vote for expansion. Ever thought about that, Gunnerfan?? ;)

I do not see the SEC expanding any time soon. I agree with you.....the third place SEC team can easily go head to head with a lot of conference champions. If they were to expand, I cannot see them taking someone from one of the mid-majors.

We shall have to agree to disagree, arbitrage. That's all I can say right now. ;)
