The top news link today (4 Nov) is a story about a group wanting to cut the scholarships for FB from 85 to 72. :'( If this proposal goes through on the national level, it is the end of college FB as we know it! :'( :'(

My proposal. 1A keeps 85 and FB must be self supporting plus 15 or more to give to non revenue sports. 1B or 1AA at 72.

The article I mentioned was the first under the headline section of this board. KingCal may be able to get the link for you.

After reconsidering the origional post while racking leaves, I have a new plan. A new division I category.
Division IA would be the current IAA. Division IAA would have 72 schlorships and the requirements that were in effect for Division 1A in 1999. Division IAAA would have the new 200 schlorship, 16 sport rules, plus annual attendance for of 90k at home games instead of 15k average per game. The FB program would have to be self supporting (counting donations earmarked for FB). Also, to stay IAAA you would have to win at leaste 25% of your games against IAAA opponents on a rolling 5 yr average.

This would leave IAAA small enough to include everyone in the BCS or have a short playoff.

What do you think?

It's up to those greedy AD b******s to decide that one out, but I think it would be feasible. 8-)

Question. IF (and its a big IF) there was an intermediate division like the one suggested in my 8 Nov post; how many current divison 1A schools would want to switch? Ncaa.com shows about 15 schools that are having trouble meeting the 15k standard. Rumors last year said that up to 30% of the schools had athletic budgets in the red for 2001. Would enough weak sisters leave to make a difference.
