Here are some new ones to try:

Southern Kentucky University (SKU) - Located in Somerset, SKU opened its doors in 1989. Like Northern Kentucky (NKU), SKU does not play football. With the enrollment for both schools nearing 10,000, NKU and SKU are looking to move to NCAA Division I and have expressed a desire to stay together in the same conference.

Alabama Institute of Technology - Alabama A&M and the University of Alabama at Huntsville merged in 2005. The school remains part of the University of Alabama system. As part of the merger between the two schools' athletic programs, Tech keeps Men's Ice Hockey, Women's Bowling, and Football and will stay in Division I, but is not expected to stay in the SWAC.

University of Eastern Oklahoma - Northeastern State never opens a campus in Broken Arrow (near Tulsa), but is still in Tahlequah. Also, Rogers State in Claremore never opens. Enrollment is close to the real-life combined total of 11,000. (Southeastern State is the U. of Southern Oklahoma, Southwestern State is the U. of Western Oklahoma, and Northwestern State is the U. of Northern Oklahoma, all of which remain in their real-life conferences)

University of Colorado at Denver - The real-life UCD (no athletic program) and Metropolitan State College of Denver (Division II) are a single institution under the University of Colorado system with over 31,000 students.

Tennessee Christian - Belmont (Atlantic Sun), Lipscomb (Atlantic Sun), Trevecca Nazarene (NAIA TranSouth), and Free Will Baptist Bible (NCCAA Division II) announce their intention to merge into a single, non-denominational Christian university and will field one athletic program.

The Ohio Valley Conference replaces Samford with Alabama Tech (and bags Western Illinois from The Summit League, who taps SIU-Edwardsville as WIU's replacement).

Both NKU and SKU join the Atlantic Sun, which is down to 10 after the merger that created Tennessee Christian and the impending departure of Gardner-Webb. NKU, SKU, TCU, ETSU, Campbell, and USC-Upstate form the North Division; Jacksonville, UNF, FGCU, Stetson, Mercer, and KSU form the South Division.

Colorado-Denver, previously the largest university in the country without a football team, is the tenth team in the Big Sky after being a charter member of the Great West football conference.

Eastern Oklahoma would be in the Southland, ahead of Texas A&M Corpus Christi (still an Independent).

I want to throw some ideas out too(All schools mentioned, except Golden Valley Lutheran which is closed, still exist):

University of St. Paul(Minnesota of Course): In 1976, hoping to give the capital city a world-class university of it's own, Metropolitain State University and St. Paul Vocational and Technical College are merged by the State Legislature. The new school starts an athletics program, even though neither school offered one before.

Minnesota Christian University: The following year(1977), Augsburg, Bethel, Concordia-St. Paul, Golden Valley Lutheran and St. Paul Bible* Colleges merge into a non-denominational university based on a sprawling campus in suburban Blaine(The campus is located near Blaine's Airport which is really the National Sports Center and TPC Twin Cities).

Snelling University(St. Paul): 1978 sees Hamline and Macalester join forces under the name of the avenue they currently reside on. (School also assumes control of William Mitchell College of Law.)

St. Patrick's University(Mendota Heights): Having seen the results of agglomeration first hand and deciding to get in on it too, all male College of St. Thomas, all female College of St. Catherine and the St. Paul campus of College of St. Scholastica merge in 1981 into St. Patrick's University(On the grounds that would become St. Thomas Academy in real life). Afterwards the Twin Cities media call it St. Pats of St. Paul.

University of Southern Minnesota(Rochester): In 1983, legislators from Rochester ask Govenor Rudy Perpich into creating a university for the city. Controversially, the govenor and the legislature opt to merge Mankato and Winona State Universities along with the teaching portion of the Mayo Clinic at a new site in suburban Rochester.

Collegeville University(Collegeville, MN): New name of St. John's University and College of St. Benedict's after 1987 merger.

University of Western Minnesota(Morris): 1990 merger of University of Minnesota, Morris; University of Minnesota, Waseca and Southwest State University(Marshall).

By legislative action in 1992, University of Minnesota, Duluth becomes University of Eastern Minnesota, University of Minnesota, Crookston becomes University of Northern Minnesota and St. Cloud State University becomes University of Central Minnesota.

Northfield University(Northfield, MN): Rival colleges Carleton and St. Olaf merge in 1997 and take the name of the city of Northfield. Name changed to Paul Wellstone University in 2003.

Mankato University: Name change of Gustavus Adolphus College after moving from New Ulm to Mankato in 1998(Campus is old Mankato State University).

Created from the Merger of Columbus State Community College, Franklin University, Ohio Institute of Health Carreers, and the William Howard Taft College of Law. Combined Student is Ca. 31,000. Mission is to be an open admissions commuter four year alternative to Ohio State, making that school more selective and (in the eyes of OSU supporters) finally put it academically adead of Ohio, Miami, Cincinatti and Toledo for good. Plays Basketball and Club Hockey at Nationwide Arena, Football, Soccer, Rugby, and Track and Field at Columbus Crew Stadium, Swimmng and Diving at the Downtown Columbus YMCA, and is set to inherit Cooper Stadium from the AAA Columbus Clippers.

University of Lansing:

Founded in the early 1900s during the auto boom, Taken over in the 1930s by the City, and then by the State in the 1960s. Law School is the Thomas Cooley College of Law. Located south of Downtown in "REO Town." Big basketball rivalry with Michigan State.

Central Illinois University Bobcats (formerly Redskins) (Decatur, Illinois)

Historic Normal School, founded in the 1800s (after Illinois State, Illinois, and Southern Illinois, but before Eastern and Western Illinois)

Utah Institute of Technology:

Orem Junior College (now Utah Valley University,) Successfully lobbies for designation as State Space Grant college in the 1960's (OTL Shared between Brigham Young and Utah).

United States Marine Corps Academy:

The Key West Accords are overturned by Richard Nixon and Quantico Marine University is later renamed and redefined in legislation signed by Ronald Reagan.

University of California at Imperial:

Southern Callifornia Agricultural College and State Model Farm (Now U.C. Riverside) is instead put here, at a campus rectangle formed from Preble Road, Neckel Road, Austin Road, and Keystone Road

U Columbus and U Lansing - Horizon League; football in Missouri Valley Football Conference (formerly Gateway)

1. Oklahoma Institute of Technology:

Founded as a Tribal Trade School in Tulsa. Taken over by the state in the 1920s. Recieved its present name in the 1960s when Oklahoma and Oklahoma State checkmated each other in the state legislature over which one would be the Space Grant and Sun Grant schools.

2. Mississippi Polytechnic Institute and State College:

In 1977, in order to settle the lawsuit filed by the NAACP, the State of Mississippi decides to settle by making Mississippi Valley State the state's Space Grant school. (But nothing of substance changes involving research or graduate programs).

3. Colorado Institute of Techonology:

Colorado School of Mines recieves the Space Grant designation that OTL went to Colorado-Colorado Springs.

4. North Carolina Maritime Academy:

UNC Wilmington Recieves the Sea Grant designation that in OTL went to ECU.

5. Virginia Maritime Academy:

Christopher Newport University recieves sole Sea Grant status, instead of just the sailing school, with Old Dominion having the Marine Biology program and William and Mary the Maritime Law school.

6. Arkansas A&M University and Millitary Institute (Monticello):

Instead of joining the University of Arkansas system, Fayetteville formally surrenders its land grant programs (with the exception of the vetranary schools at Little Rock {Household Pets} and Texarkana {Livestock}) to Arkansas A&M. It is the last strict ROTC Land Grant college left (All Traditional Aged students must join the corps of cadets and sign ROTC contracts).

Bumping this back up to address other universities that I missed, dealing with recent developments.

University of Moorhead: Moorhead State University acquires Concordia College in 2007 and is renamed the following year.

Minnesota State University: Renaming of Bemidji State University as the result of a bonding bill this year.
