The new weekly college fb polls are out.Looks like MWC has two schools ranked ahead of any BE schools.

How long will/should it take for MWC supporters to make the case that their league should have it's own BCS autobid?
Link to this week's rankings at http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/rankingsindex

I'd say this...if Boise and Fresno were invited to the MWC as a requirement by the BCS, it would be worth it. Utah, BYU, Bosie and Fresno? Better than the Pac-10!

Quinn,I don't know about the Pac-10,but if the MWC added Boise State, and Fresno State it would probably be more BCS worthy than the BE.Also, the BE is the only current BCS autobid conference that does not anchor a BCS bowl game.It should be interesting to see how fast this movement becomes if the top MWC/WAC teams keep winning.
Thanks

The Mountain West also has 2 teams ranked ahead of any ACC school.

I wonder if the Mountain West could lure some teams from the big conferences that are in their footprint (Colorado? Texas Tech? Arizona? Arizona State?) and maybe send some teams back to the WAC (SD State, Air Force?), maybe get a team back in return (Fresno State?). Here's a hypothetical:

Mountain West West: UNLV, Utah, BYU, Fresno State, Arizona, Arizona State
Mountain West East: Colorado, Colorado State, Wyoming, New Mexico, TCU, Texas Tech

The MWC probably won't have enough working in their favor to pull this off, but it might be possible considering schools like Colorado and the Arizona schools were once associated with these same teams in the WAC and its predecessors. What's more likely to happen is the MWC grabs some teams like Boise State and Fresno State from the WAC and maybe UTEP from C-USA.

Article with comments from MWC Commish Craig Thompson who says that the new BCS 4-year grading period to determine BCS autobids started this year.He believes that three more good years by the MWC will earn his league a BCS autobid.Link at http://www.tradingmarkets.com/.site/news/Stock%20News/1935741

If the top MWC/WAC schools continue to win the remainder of this season and for the next 3 seasons it is inevitable that the MWC will get a BCS autobid eventually.

On the otherhand, the BE which is really a BB conference is having difficulty finding top ranked FB teams this season. The BE lost it's Orange Bowl anchor designation after the ACC raid and has not recovered it.The BE only has 8 D-1a FB teams.

If the BE fails to address their weak FB structure (smallest BCS league)where about half of it's membership don't even have a D-1a FB squad and they can't regain their Orange Bowl anchor designation and they continue to struggle to field top 12 FB schools they should lose their BCS autobid.

The current 4-year BCS autobid test period began this season. It should be interesting to see what the BE and the MWC do during this time period both on and off the field to further their BCS status.

Thanks Freaked

Article out of Tulsa arguing that the current BCS autobid situation is unfair and should be changed. The suggestion is for the Bowl Coalition to get together and put pressure on the BCS to make the changes.Link at http://www.tulsaworld.com/sports/article.aspx?articleID=20081017_216_B2_Fromth866368

no way there should be an autobid, they are not historically strong enough and probably won't be able to maintain this strength for an extended period of time

The first official 2008 BCS poll is out.The non-BCS conferences have 6 spots with the MWC having 3 of those. It should be interesting to see if those Non- BCS conference schools can keep winning.Link at http://www.bcsfootball.org/cfb/story/8694984/Longhorns-secure-top-spot-in-opening-BCS-standings

The official weekly BCS poll will be released later.
Here is this week's USAToday coaches poll at http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/usatpoll.htm

Note that the non-BCS conferences currently have 6 schools including three by the MWC ranked higher than any Big East school.

East Coast blog article rating MWC as top five D-1a conference.
If the top MWC/WAC schools continue to win they should eventually get a BCS autobid.
