This does bring up some really good questions as to what constitutes being a D-3 athlete and whether or not need based aid should be available. I admit I'm a little biased on the subject, since having need-based aid available at the D-III level would have meant my hockey eligibility wouldn't have died when my college shut down the team, but I can also see the other side of the argument as well. It may become possible we could have a III-A and III-AA setup like as exists in D-I, and considering the expense of having a football team, I could see that being one of the deciding factors.
