The NAIA is down from a high of 500 + schools to 291 at present.

According to part 2 of the article in this thread, today (2/24/09) several members of the American Mideast Conference (AMC) are voting whether to move up en masse to NCAA Div.2 and form a new Div. 2 All-Ohio confernce.

If anyone finds any news items on the results of this meeting, please post. Thanks.

NAIA really likes to hold on to that 291 number

Here are some facts (Basketball playing members & provisional/exploratory members)
NCAA D-I 347 schools
NCAA D-II 291 schools (w/4 Puerto Rico schools)
NCAA D-III 408 schools
NAIA 248 schools (87 football schools)

The NAIA has members that only play 1 or 2 sports which raise the numbers.

The NAIA shouldn't die off because they still have a pool to draw from there are 48 NCCAA members(without dual membership), 37 USCAA members(without dual membership), and JUCOs switching to 4 year schools.

The Ohio conference that the NAIA schools want to form consists of Urbana, Malone, Walsh all in the process of moving to D-II along with Notre Dame(OH), Mt. Vernon Nazarene, Cedarville.

Freaked, I posted that article on on Malone & Walsh on the D-II board.

The AMC history thing is interesting because Myers is not on the AMC website as a member and the NAIA had them as an Indy and now they don't I checked their website they seem to have dropped sports
From the NAIA site
American Mideast Conference (16)

Carlow University, Pittsburgh, PA (All Women)
Cedarville University, Cedarville, OH
Daemen College, Amherst, NY
Houghton College, Houghton, NY
Malone University, Canton, OH (Exploring D-II)
Mount Vernon Nazarene University, Mount Vernon, OH
University of Northwestern Ohio, Lima, OH (Not listed in the history of AMC)
Notre Dame College, South Euclid, OH
Ohio Dominican University, Columbus, OH (D-II applied for GLIAC)
Point Park University, Pittsburgh, PA
University of Rio Grande, Rio Grande, OH
Roberts Wesleyan College, Rochester, NY
Shawnee State University, Portsmouth, OH
Ursuline College, Pepper Pike, OH (All Women)
Walsh University, North Canton, OH (Exploring D-II)
Wilberforce University, Wilberforce, OH

AMC doesn't even know who's coming or going, they forget Northwestern Ohio, and add Myers who doesn't have sports

Fresno St Alum, thanks for the post.I may have misunderstood you,but did you say that you posted the link to the Canton paper article on "this" board?
I ask because I cannot seem to locate it.

Also,it is normally ok to post articles on multiple threads if they fit.

Again,if I find any info regarding the AMC President's meeting I will post it.

Thanks

Fresno St Alum, thanks for the clarification and board link.
I am not sure if that board is individually listed in the message board directory on this site.If not, perhaps we should have it added?

Thanks
