Longwood has been denied by the Big South a few times. I think the BSC hopes Campbell goes to scholly football and they'll add W.Georgia or N.Alabama in 2011. Longwood should join the A-Sun now and in 2011 W.Florida should become the 12th member as long as they don't start football. I still think UNA to the OVC makes more sense.

Agreed. UNA to the OVC makes sense. Longwood should bite the bullet and head to the A-Sun just to get into a scheduling routine. And if West Georgia upgrades, the A-sun works as well. A key factor is that the A-Sun could lose more members down the road, perhaps to the OVC or Big south, so there's a chance if they are at 11 with Longwood, that number might be 8,9 or 10 not long after.

Why would the A-Sun drop to 8-9? Who's leaving and for where?

A-Sun and W.Georgia, No. They have football and would want in the Big South.

Here's a tease: the answers are on the Grid (http://collegesportsinfo.com/coference-realignment-grid)

But I'll give you a hint ;): Belmont and Lipscomb have been often mentioned as potential candidates for the OVC. And ETSU is sitting there as a potential non-football member for the Big South (an upgrade) and if they ever brought back football, the OVC and SoCon top the list.

There is a huge risk if the Big South added another non-fb member. Georgia Southern goes FBS, Socon takes C.Carolina. Big South has 5 Fb members plus the unstable Stony Brook.

Yeah I hear the OVC could take Belmont. That would really put the cabosh on N.Kentucky could be too far north for the ASC. Also for UNA since that would put the OVC at 12. Leaving UNA for the Big South.

Article out of Richmond discussing possibility of Longwood joining a D-1 conference.Longwood AD mentions that he would like to join either the Big South or the Atlantic Sun.Big South Commish has indicated that his league is not interested in further expansion "right now".Unclear whether the Big South would be interested in Longwood in the future.Link at http://www.timesdispatch.com/rtd/sports ... 025/267832

I just don't know why the Big South would change their mind and invite Longwood after turning them down multiple times.

sure, it's a 12th team. But they could have been the 11th and got passed over. If the Big South wants a 12th, it would seem to need to be a football school since it's not likely that Stonybrook is a long term option. There are a handful of D2 upgrades we could see in the next 5 years that would be better 12th options (since they have football).

Kennesaw St. will add football in 2014. Look for them to be invited as a full member of the Big South by then. Which probably kills Longwood as the 12th member. A-Sun should add them.
