If the NCAA allows the ACC to hold a championship game with only 11 teams this could mean a some different things.

1. The Big 10 (11) will stage its own championship game.

2. The PAC-10 will expand 1 team to have a championship game

3. The MWC only adds 3 teams and has a CGame.

Scenario 1 seems pretty plausible as it would just mean more revenue for the Big10.

Scenario 2 has a fair chance because the Pac 10 can add one team and easily make up the revenue. The best fit for them would be Utah. Academically, they are better than half of the PAC10. Geographically, they are an 1 to 1 1/2 hour flight from every other PAC 10 team. Athletically, Their football stadium is top notch (thanks to the olympics) and holds 50k they have ok facilities. Basketball they would be in the top 1/3 every year

Scenario 3 Seems most plausible because the MWC wants to expand except they only want 2 (Fresno and Hawaii) and they could stomach TCU (because of football). The MWC needs to expand with Fresno and Hawaii so that there is not another viable western conference besides the pac-10

So Pac Ten wouldn't have to do anything.

MWC would only need 2 (which is what they seem to be looking at anyway).

Clarification:

The ACC proposal would allow championship games with just 10 teams

:)

Is the Pac Ten attractive to Utah without having BYU with it?

Hmm, don't recall anyone bringing up the BYU issue yet, though its probably on an older thread somewhere ???.

BYU is not as good a school academically as Utah, but performs better on the football field (Utah has the stronger bb program). BYU has a better tv viewership, since they not only have their alumni, but a loyal Mormon viewership all over the west, particularly Idaho, Arizona, Nevada, California, and even western Oregon and Washington. :o

The downside is that last I heard, they do not do games on Sunday, and I remember reading something years ago that the Pac-10 would never consider a BYU thing until BYU got over that bit of fundamentalism. :-/

I remember some years ago also reading that BYU/Utah had an informal agreement that neither one would ever join another conference unless it was a package deal. Rivals should stay together. This makes sense, just like Arizona/ArizonaState years ago. :)

Anyone with better info please correct.. :)
