Then the question is posed....would it make a stronger statment to have a non-BCS team in the title game with no other non-BCS team in the designated BCS bowls OR as it is, have two non-BCS teams, from separate conferences, receiving two BCS at-large bid, minus the championship game?

I would say the later, but TCU and Boise State are to face each other which appears as a qualifier as the Wyoming coach and some others noted. Of course, it's also conditional, for if TCU did receive the championship game bid, and got blown away by 'Bama, it could diminish, in some eyes, the MWC case. Ummhhh, well, that Utah-'Bama game last year?

This is the kind of thing that will determine whether the MWC decides to invite Boise State or not.

Imagine for a moment, however, how a PAC-10 expansion (which directly or indirectly would cost them two of their top teams) could ruin all their plans....
With the Big Ten ready to go to 12, the MWC has to be wary of the PAC, just as the BE has to be wary of the Big Ten.

Well, figure that if Utah went to Pac-10 and BYU to Big 12, at least the MWC could use their numbers that year...just like they will use Boise St.s WAC numbers towards theirs. The problem is you replace BYU and Utah with Boise St. and say Nevada, you aren't balancing the numbers that next year. After Boise, there isn't anyone out there that helps.

Quinn, you reflected on a formidable thought. Utah to the Pac10; BYU to the B12. Both go to a BCS conference, but separate ones. They could maintain a rivalry OOC (via Clemson-So. Carolina style).
The PAC10 appears they would not be interested in BYU due to BYU's theological doctrine focus and perhaps no-Sunday play, and may not want two schools from Utah. Taking just Utah, the PAC10 would have stronger marketing options elsewhere such as in Colorado.
Taking BYU, the B12 picks up a contiguous school, and a campus with fine facilities, excellent fan support, and prior success/ credentials. And, if the PAC10 did take Colorado, there's always Colorado State for a B12 replacement, and if 14 plus ever developed throughout; less favorable, maybe, options could include Air Force, New Mexico, and Wyoming.
If circumstances were ripe, Utah to the PAC10 and BYU to the B12 could be a win-win situation.

I do think though that if the Big 12 ever needed 2 schools, BYU would top the list (as they were the original #12 candidate before Baylor got forced on them). That might change if Colorado were gone and BYU would be isolated geographically. Regardless, I do think that the Big 12 would stray from the North/West and instead go with what works for them: Texas/South. So TCU might be a more attractive option, perhaps even Houston if they needed 2 schools.

Indeed. 3 top 25, same as Big East.

Not a ton of wins over BCS schools by the MWC teams, but a few good ones...BYU beating #3 Oklahoma in Dallas was big.
