How about this idea to save the WAC.
Utah St goes to the MWC
Hawaii goes Indy
New Mexico St and Louisiana Tech goes to CUSA
San Jose St and Idaho stay.

WAC
West

San Jose St
UC Davis
Cal Poly
E Washington
Northern Arizona
Portland St
Sacramento St.
Southern Utah
Weber State

East
Montana
Montana St
North Dakota
North Dakota St
South Dakota
South Dakota St
Idaho
Idaho St.
Northern Colorado

I know its extreme but its fun to speculate and the only way i know the WAC can be saved.

I like your East division because I have always thought that fans in those states would love to be included in FBS football.
I'm not sure if your West Division is needed. I would like to see something like this:

Montana
Montana St
North Dakota
North Dakota St
South Dakota
South Dakota St
Idaho
Idaho St.
Wyoming

fg, akwart, you have 11 schools...11...that are not in the FBS picture. This is a prime scenario for the dream thread, but not so much the WAC. It's one thing if we're talking about 1-2 schools that aren't anywhere near FBS level or in the mix according to WAc sources. But 11 is a real big number.

Well, this is interesting....

Quote:
4. The WAC and its members and BYU, agree that all current members of the WAC (except Louisiana Tech and Boise State, which has already given notice of its withdrawal) will not join any other conference or athletic conference from the date of adoption of this resolution through June 30, 2016, contingent upon BYU agreeing that it will not join any other conference or athletic conference from the date of entering a contract with the WAC through June 30, 2016.

5. Any WAC member (except Louisiana Tech or Boise State) or BYU shall pay a penalty of $5 million in the event it violates the terms of paragraph 5 herein unless the conference that is joined has current (as of the time joined) automatic access for its league champion into the bowl championship series (BCS). Said payment will be made within 60 days from demand from the WAC.

6. In the event that any current WAC member, (except Louisiana Tech or Boise State), or BYU leaves the WAC in accordance with the provisions of paragraph 5 herein, the terms of this resolution are terminated.

At first glance, it reads like La Tech has already given notice. But the previous Boise State language and the singular grammar indicate La Tech has not given notice....

BUT it appears as if the WAC and La Tech have an understanding that Tech is only in the WAC now out of convenience (as in, no where else to go) and the WAC understands they are looking for a new home and are okay with it.

Also it appears they are okay with schools leaving for a spot in a BCS conference. Upward movement is allowed but not laterall. Kind of odd since a school going to a BCS conference would much more likely have the money to pay up.

If you read it all you see that the whole contract should be void because BYU never joined which was the whole basis for the buy out. Well if they join by Sept 1 then we're on the hook if not part 1 never happened so we aren't responsible to pay for part 2 since part 1 never happened.

Quinn i know its sounds crazy with 11 more but its the only way i know the WAC can be saved. They better start extending invites now to get a jump on it quick

Actually, the WAC could be saved if the 2 known FCS upgrades join, along with just a few of the schools that actually could upgrade to FBS or have been mentioned by the WAC admins: Montana, Sac St, UC Davis, Cal Poly, Portland St.

The WAC only needs to have a total 8 members to be safe since there will not likely be room in more desirable conferences for these schools (such as MWC, CUSA):

WAC at (8) schools:
~Idaho
Montana
~SJSU
Sac St.
~NMSU
Texas St
UTSA
~LA Tech

WAC at (10) schools:
* Utah St (if they stay)
* Hawaii (if they stay)

Others to get to 12/replacements for Utah St & Hawaii
Portland St.
UC Davis
Cal Poly

For La Tech, this a golden opportunity to force the WAC into building a division around Ruston.
Ya know, cherry pick the members.

I would think Tech would pick UTSA and Texas st to gain better Texas exposer for recruiting.
Arkansas st maybe interested. Tech can leave out teams like ULM.

Ferd Lewis column from "the Islands" suggesting that whatever conference direction Hawaii heads it will likely have to "cough up"some travel subsidies to the other schools. This may explain why regional conferences like the WCC and Big West may be interested in Hawaii.Link at http://www.staradvertiser.com/columnist ... idies.html

Indeed. But it makes sense. Figure the flights from Hawaii to LA and SF, the only 2 cities Hawaii would need to fly into (4 LA airports, 3 bay area), their travel would save a ton of money (no longer flying to Spokane for Idaho games, Boise, SLC, El Paso/ABQ, Reno, Fresno). So they could afford to throw some money the BW way. Without looking at the numbers, they might even be able to pull off a situation where they pay the BW schools but also are able to save more money than the WAC travel cost them.

Actual e-mails obtained by the freedom of information act on the WAC vs MWC showdown.

I'd like to point out that Prez Welty(Fresno St.) is like a Pro Wrestler giving the fake handshake and then kicks the guy's a$$. What do you expect, BYU screwed us in 1998. Payback!
