I can't see the NCAA approving a C-USA/MWC play-in to the BCS unless C-USA was to forgo it's championship game (which makes all kinds of problems)

This MWC / CUSA deal sort of only makes sense if the MWC and CUSA were round-robin conferences, and neither group has to endure a conf. championship game, then a MWC-CUSA playoff, then a BCS bowl.

We keep hearing about "20" teams. Well, right now there aer 23 (11 + 12), where the MWC 11 includes BYU. How do you get to 20 ? Lose 3 teams. How do you lose 3 teams without lawsuits galore ???

Hmmm. The one guy quoted (was it the New Mexico College President) inferred that somehing we don't know about may happen in the next 2 weeks. I have NO informatioin on this, but just suppose for a minute the BE were to expand with Temple, and 3 CUSA teams (UCF, Memphis, and ??? ECU, maybe, Houston, maybe ?)

Suddenly CUSA is at 9, MWC is at 11. Move TCU back to the CUSA grouping and you have 10 and 10.
Each grouping plays a 9-game round-robin, and then the champs of each meet in this BCS Play-in game.

Basically you have the MWC in the West, CUSA in the East. The Jerry Jones dome is fairly central, although it'd almost be a home game for Fort Worth-based TCU....

The Big XII (X, actually) has based their new format on a round-robin. I think UT vs. A&M is typically Thanksgiving weekend. There was some talk of moving the UT vs. OU ("Red River Shoot-out") to the last weekend of conference play, and again you could stuff 100,000 + into the Cowboy's Stadium (although I thought I read that the old Cotton Bowl is undergoing renovations.... Do they still have a contract to host that game ?

The Cotton Bowl game itself is moving to Cowboys' stadium and the renovated Cotton Bowl stadium will host the new Dallas Football Classic bowl game.

If CUSA and MWC move to have a BCS Championship play in game, then it makes sense for TCU to join CUSA. TCU would dominate CUSA for years.

Thanks actually a great point. Travel costs would be less. But the move only makes sense if the championship game always exists. TCU in the MWC does keep the MWC closer to getting an autobid. Who knows, maybe in 3 years, you'll have BSU, TCU and a 3rd school in the MWC sitting in the top 15 each year and making the MWC worthy of an autobid. But with TCU gone, that would never happen.

Perhaps C-USA is preparing for some schools to leave in the near future, or even their own split a little further down the line. We've already heard rumors of Memphis and UCF to the Big East... Maybe they are trying to organize a group of Mid-Atlantic/Eastern schools with a core of Marshall, Temple, and ECU. I'm less likely to believe that TCU is going to C-USA though.

Temple has been in the BE & MAC for fb only. If they go to C-USA, I assume it will be for "all sports". While their A10 association has been long-term, they need the advantages of an all-sports affiiation for stability and cultivating rivalries across sports. C-USA would provide Temple competition at a level consistent with it's general profile. I believe it would be a smart move for Temple. Getting back into the BE, particularly for an "all-sports" capacity does not appear on the horizon. There's probably lingering bitterness from the fb booting; and pettiness from one or two BE bb schools anyway. Considering all, C-USA may be the best fit for Temple.

As a poster indicated above, C-USA may lose some, add some. The focus may be with MWC and/or WAC types. I am not convinced Memphis and UCF are leaving for the BE anytime soon, if ever. The BE will just sit in stalemate, and after others are done, declare once again, "there is just not anyone of value to add". What the BE is doing by their posture, is giving proactive conferences such as the MWC and C-USA, stronger cases for improved BCS access.

Well, I think it's a great move for Temple long term, I'd disagree with the "general profile" idea. Temple only competes in the A-10 aside in hoops and volleyball. The rest they merely participate in.

It's a great move because it gives them a better chance to show the BCS conferences "Hey, we bring something to the table" than if they are in the MAC.

C-USA has some consistent, decent bb programs, i. e. Memphis and UAB. Temple would not have as much regional bb for conference play, but that could emerge as C-USA may re-shape. As to fb, Temple is not yet on par, consistently, with USM, Houston, ECU, and UCF; but the potential is there. Looking at not being accepted to the BE and the MAC is temporary comfort zone for rebuilding, C-USA appears the best option. As to profile, a cut below BCS conference status is apparent, and C-USA provides a superior conference image to the MAC and Sunbelt. While Temple can be unpredictable and too much on the negative side, it may just fit in C-USA beyond basic expectations.
