International Bowl canceled due to lack of tie-ins. Personally, I'm not surprised esp. after the Pinstripe Bowl was announced.

Freaked -

Thanks for posting the comprehensive listing.
Note that the Advocare V100 Independence Bowl is listed up on the title line of the side-bar listings...

I had to do some research to determine where the "Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl" came from...
it was the former "Emerald Bowl" in San Francisco.

A few more sponsorship arrangements have yet to be worked out. I found it interesting that ESPN is negotiating those deals on behalf of many of the bowls, and the sponsorship naming deals involve the sponsor having to invest significant $$$ in commercial air time during the game - it's a bit surprising that Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis haven't gotten in on the act.

Still no spoonsorship deal can beat "the granddaddy of them all" - the {former] "Poulin Weed-Whacker Independence Bowl".
What school wasn't drooling over that trophy ????

Just read that Pitt football coach Dave Wannstedt "resigned" after wrapping up a disappointing 7-5 season. Where early on they were projected to be the Big East champion (and would therefore be hte BE BCS Bowl representative), they would up as co-champion, and are instead headed to the "BBVA Compass Bowl"....

The WHAT ????

Apparently BBVA is the second-largest bank in Spain, and it's US HQ is in Birmingham, AL.
So when papajohns.com ended their sponsorship of the "Birmingham Bowl", BBVA took over.
Pitt will face Kentucky of the SEC in the BBVA Compass Bowl.

We can only hope one day for a playoff, where these bowls serve as NIT type of games for the schools left out of the playoff.

I'll second your desire for a playoff.

Frankly, do we really need these miscellaneous bowl games ?
More and more, the marginal bowl games are entirely the province of ESPN.
They need programming and have an audience of people taking off work over the holidays.
For so many of these games (this BBVA included), ESPN owns the TV rights, puts up the "prize money", and lines up the sponsor. So there is nothing "organic" about the game, it is just a creation to fill up TV air time... ESPN is certainly within it's rights to do this... but some of these "Classics" featuring 7-5 and 6-6 teams are truly just "junk programming".

I wonder if we'll ever get a playoff. The current system is only OK in my mind IF you have exactly 2 undefeated teams. However, undefeated teams from non-BCS-autobid conferences are absolutely HOSED in the current arrangement. What more does a TCU have to do to gain recognition ? Run up the score to 70-0 every time they play a patsy ? Part of the problem with the BCS is that the human voters in the system are highly biased toward BCS conference teams. To wit: Boise St. lost one game in OT, exactly what did Arkansas do to distinguish themselves this year ? Answer: Nothing really, they were a pretty good team that lost their big games, but they will "travel well" to a BCS game. So, it's entirely political in my mind. The recent realignments are taking the few BCS busters out of the weak conferences, the ones remaining right now are BYU (independent, but no BCS deal like ND has), and Boise State (soon to be MWC).

I saw a few articles claiming the BCS got it right with Oregon vs. Auburn.
Well... maybe, but that craps all over TCU. How do we ASSUME that TCU isn't worthy when we don't give them the chance to go for it on the field.
Nobody has beaten them yet this year.
TCU didn't need some FG shenanigans to beat Cal...
TCU didn't have their arch-rival blow a 24-0 lead for them.... (did anyone find that a tad suspicious that the defending National Champs just collapsed ???)

Expected this would arise...

http://outsports.com/jocktalkblog/2012/ ... -pull-out/
(article by C. Zeigler, Jr. 8/01/2012)

Given the recent controversy regarding Chick-fil-A, pressure, from certain quarters, may be growing for the ACC, SEC, and ESPN to terminate their association with this bowl and the Chick-Fil-A sponsored kickoff games in Atlanta, also between the ACC & the SEC. Also, there could be pressure to exclude the Chick-fil-A bowl from bids to host any of the future planned fb playoff games.

Frankly, I liked the name "PEACH BOWL" and was very disappointed when the name was changed, several years back, after the fast food, corporate sponsor.

Totally agree, SEC.

I detest the stupid-sounding corporate sponsor names -
I keep coming back to (I'm not making this up) the former "Poulin Weed-Whacker Independence Bowl".
I always mused how they could do the post-game trophy presentation and announce the winner, without busting a gut laughing at that stupid name !

There may be several factors at work that will drive the "Chick-Fil-A Bowl" name into oblivion.
1) I'm sure Atlanta was one of the 10 cities asked to bid on the "Champs Bowl" request for proposal.
If they were to win that, Chick-Fil-A would at best be in position of buying commercials, rather than owning the naming rights (I think).
2) If their bid for the Champs Bowl loses out, Atlanta will next bid for one of the one or two new (don't call them BCS) "non-contract" [sometimes] FBS semi-final games.
Not sure if the FBS group wants a corporate name for these, or even "Peach, Sugar, Cotton, Fiesta, etc.
3) Right now a bid with "Chick-Fil-A" front and center isn't going to win any proposals.
Even if the Chick-Fil-A CEO disdains homosexuality, I'm sure he's never had any issue with taking their money in exchange for chicken sandwiches.
So aside from bigotry, this statement appears to be a stupid move from a business stand-point. Not sure what motivated the guy to even speak on the matter....
