I think Oakland & IUPUI weren't core members yet they only had 5. Then they brought in NDSU & SDSU (still not core) and IPFW (became a core in 2008)

I think IUPUI and Oakland were full members when they joined the Summit, there weren't as strenuous of rules on moveups as there are in place now. The interesting thing with the Dakota schools is that them moving up a year later caused them to have to wait longer than ther DSU brethren to be a full member.

eventually, the Asun might have enough members to sponsor football. Problem is many would want to join the big South or even SoCon at that point.

Kennesaw St. will add football in 2014. Look for them to be invited as a full member of the Big South by then.

If the Atlantic Sun could find two more schools in its footprint willing to sponsor non-scholarship football, the Atlantic Sun could sponsor its own version of the Pioneer League, with Campbell and Davidson as affiliate members in football. Stetson may be on the verge of starting football; perhaps SC Upstate as the sixth member?

I just ran across this article out of Orlando reporting that Atlantic Sun member Stetson is bringing back non-scholarship football in the fall of 2013 with plans of joining the Pioneer Football League (PFL). http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2011-03-14/sports/os-stetson-football-03142011-20110314_1_football-program-atlantic-sun-conference-football-coach

Other Atlantic Sun members with football teams:

Jacksonville (PFL)
Campbell (PFL) [moving to the Big South conference next fall]
Mercer (as of 2013 - hopes to join the PFL)
Kennesaw St. (as of 2014 - plans to offer scholarships - conference TBD)

The OVC announced the move today.
Belmont, a current member of the Atlantic Sun Conference, will join the OVC in 2012-13.

So does that mean the OVC is done and UNA isn't coming? Or do they want 14 w/ UNA and NKU?

Or they are expecting more changes - maybe Jax State has told them they are going to leave at first opportunity?

Or Tennessee State is going to an HBCU conference?

this gives them 9 full football, and 3 non-conference football (12 in basketball).

Since this is the A-sun thread, what do they do?

They are down to 9 now, with Campbell leaving as well.

1. Longwood
2. N.Alabama (if they still want to move and BSC and OVC reject them)
3. N.Kentucky (out of the footprint)
4. W.Florida (if they still want to move up)
5. Lincoln Memorial (if they still want to move up)
6. HBU & UTPA (go back to the old TAAC footprint)
