In some respects, I'm surprised this hasn't caught on sooner.

Western Kentucky University uses its station, WKYU, to broadcast games. Commerical stations in other markets pick up the telecasts. WKYU is also odd in that it is one of three PBS stations available in Bowling Green (WKGB is Bowling Green's KET station, and Nashville Public Television also covers the market), so that probably gives them some more latitude in pre-empting PBS programming.

Georgia Public Television has broadcast all of the GHSAA football semifinals and finals - three quintupleheaders in a nine-day span - for years.

WBYeager,thanks for the post.

Agreed that major College football has been on Public tv in prior years. However, with the advent of mega money network deals for the Major schools the public tv area is apparently being filled by the smaller conference schools.Link to more SOCON on public tv info out of Greensboro at http://www.news-record.com/content/2011 ... s_football

The article above mentions that the SEC members only received 18.3 million from the conference, which is true but is not entirely the whole picture. What it does not mention is the fact that the SEC has no "SEC" network, individual schools negotiate their own regional deals. For example, the University of Florida has a TV deal with SUN network which pays them 10 million per year to re-play their football games on Sundays, bringing their total to 28.3 million annually, far more than 22.6 million. The truth is that some SEC schools do better than B1G Ten schools and some do worse based on these separate TV deals.

Edit:Article makes apples to apples comparisons, you don't.The Big 10 schools have their own separate local deals. If you want to compare revenue numbers from school to school then please produce your evidence and cite your sources.

Thanks
Freaked

Sounds like airing of high school games on a station partially "owned" by a university is either strictly prohibited or a "very gray area".
Perhaps the buzzing at T A&M has nothing to do with leaving the Big XII, but rather relates to "nipping this [airing of high school games] in the bud".

CBSSports blog article discussing SEC tv deal situation.
Did SEC and Mike Slive make a mistake in locking themselves into a 15 year deal?
Is there anyway out of this situation other than triggering the composition clauses in their tv contracts with expansion?
Is that why we are hearing all of these Texas A&M to the SEC rumors?Link at http://eye-on-collegefootball.blogs.cbs ... 8/30738737
