If Boise is on its way out of the MWC, TCU has no reason to go back to the MWC. C-USA+Cincy, USF and TCU would probably get the 6th AQ. I'm starting to think they might be the big winners when this is done (great news for SJSU who will now definitely get into the MWC!!!).

I have a hard time seeing the MWC expand past 12. The reason the MWC was formed was because the WAC was too clunky at 16 teams. If they feel 16 teams is the way to go in this NCAA climate then a combo of Houston, SMU, UTEP, and Tulsa would be ideal. Leave Rice in C-USA with Tulane.

C-USA then:
Tulane
Rice
UAB
Memphis
Southern Miss
UCF
East Carolina
Marshall

At that point they could bring in the Big East scraps, more than likely USF and Cincinnati. Invite Temple and say either Appalachian State, Florida International, Troy, James Madison, etc...

Going to 14 is all the rage now :D As long as they don't have pods. Plus 2 of the Gang of 5 that split are gone now.

Blog article out of Orlando reporting that C-USA-MWC today released a joint release regarding the future relationship between the two conferences.Link at http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports ... talks.html

Actually, I'd think "ideal" for MWC would be if the Big East lost a school and TCU opted to remain in the MWC...and the MWC wins it's appeal and gets a BCS AQ. Note that the second if VERY possible even without TCU. TCU would lock it up.

Point is, the MWC might be in a great spot. The CUSA merger idea was presented as a backup in case the BCS AQ isn't given to the MWC.

So really, the MWC could be at 10 with a BCS AQ. Pretty good spot I'd say. If they have keep TCU, that's good too...maybe better.

But MWC is in a good spot right now I'd say. Well deserved.

I'm betting if Boise ends up in the Big 12 that the Big East AQ will not be given to another conference and it will just be another at large bid.

Ideally, the MWC ends up with Boise and TCU if so I think they may get a BCS AQ without C-USA and then if the Big 12 doesn't invite BYU, they come back because of that AQ.

Agree Seanbo, HOWEVER, the problem with your scenario may invovle timing.

MWC isn't going to hear about AQ status until well down the road.
So BYU, Boise, TCU are making decisions based on guesses about what the future landscape looks like.

We keep hearing Air Force is being courted by the BE.
I can't believe they would even listen to the BE.
The BE looks like a train wreck.
I believe Air Force would have to find a new home in a non-FBS conference, or go to the BE for all sports (not sure BE is offering that).
But more to the point, the MWC may be more likely than the BE to be BCS AQ going forward.
They should sit tight and tell Marinatto where to go.
Maybe the B12 will come a-callin'...

Indeed, yours is a better explanation of what I was thinking.

But now that the option of a merger is out there, won't CUSA vote to not give us an AQ. Don't all 11 conf. vote on it?

I was simply stating what was ideal for the MWC not necessarily ideal for the schools. If any of the 3 are offered membership in the Big 12 and Oklahoma and Texas commit, they should join, but for the MWC, there hope is that the Big 12 takes combination of Big East schools and Texas C-USA schools and leave them alone.

With the demise of the Big East, and if TCU and Boise stays in the MWC, I can see the MWC getting the Big East's AQ in a year or two. If BYU is not taken by the Big 12, then I can see them rejoining the MWC. That's the MWC dream scenerio.

It's a BCS decision and since the MWC numbers are favorable for an appeal, a single conference with a vendetta won't be a deciding factor.

Southern Miss Golden Eagles

Rice Owls-
SMU Mustangs-MWC
Tulane Green Wave-
Tulsa Golden Hurricane-MWC
UTEP Miners-MWC

If this happens UAB,Southern Miss and Tulane will Sunbelt and Rice will go either MWC or Sunbelt and no CUSA then the sunbelt will pick up LA Tech, UTSA and Texas State from the WAC. Then Utah State, SJSU , New Mexico State and Idaho will go to the MWC. no more CUSA No More Wac and Stronger MWC and Sunbelt. plus a mediocre Big East.

Or Tulane goes to the Big 12! hahahahahahaha. Wow. I can't believe the Big 12 actually discussed Tulane.

Has the time come where the 6 #BigEast FB schools should consider FB-only membership in #CUSA? Even if no more BE schools leave?

Things are getting ugly.

Got to think Navy and Air Force are out now. No TCU, BCS bid at risk.

That leaves UCF, SMU, Houston as all-sports options. Temple for either all or FB-only. And ECU for FB only...maybe Memphis too.

Gotta ask yourself if you are the Big East basketball schools:
Would adding UCF, SMU, Houston, Temple for all sports to get to 10 (if no other BE schools leave) be worth it? Especially if you are adding those schools (only Temple good in hoops) to keep Uconn, WVU, Rutgers, Louisville happy...when all 4 schools are looking to leave?

Or do you pitch these schools: lets see if we can get you all in CUSA for football-only and remain in the Big East for other sports. It's the price for the hoops schools to pay to keep Uconn, Rutgers, Louisville and even WVU and Cincy...by keeping USF in the big east for non-football sports.

Maybe you get lucky and USF leaves for CUSA.

But for football, how is this conference of 18 that much worse than these 10:

Big East football:
Uconn
Rutgers
* Temple
WVU
* ECU
Cincinnati
Louisville
* SMU
* UCF
USF

Versus a CUSa/BE FB only merge:

EAST:
* Uconn
* Rutgers
* WVU
ECU
* Cincinnati
* Louisville
UCF
* USF

WEST:
Memphis
UAB
USM
Tulane
Tulsa
SMU
Rice
UTEP
